Responsibilities

The position is responsible for the design, specification, installation, programming, repairs, and maintenance of complex building automation systems (BAS), engineered building systems, and environmental and refrigeration monitoring systems. It requires a demonstrated knowledge and expertise in low voltage systems, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, mechanical, and direct digital control systems. This work also includes an understanding of Mayo Clinic’s special systems, computer servers, information technology networks, and cabling infrastructure systems.

The position includes: responding to service calls for preventive and corrective maintenance on various building controls systems; demonstrating efficient utilization of multiple electronic applications, software, and computers that support Facilities Operations and Maintenance functions; performing proactive analysis of building systems; making judgments and taking immediate action required to maintain service delivery and continuity, ensuring minimal to no lapse in system downtime; participating in and performing project review and problem resolution; possessing advanced skills and expertise in controls operation, maintenance, inspection, testing, and programming of building systems; designing and creating sequence of operation for building systems; providing direction and support for staff, contractors, and vendors with the startup and commissioning of building systems; possessing excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with staff, patients, and visitors; requiring availability to work overtime as needed; and providing rotating 24/7 on‑call support of building systems.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree or two‑year vocational certificate/license with a minimum of two years demonstrated experience in low voltage building systems or five years of experience with programming, installation, and maintenance of building infrastructure systems in a commercial facility. Certification in, or the ability to achieve certification within six months of hire, of Niagara AX or N4 platforms is required.

Competency: attends and participates in classes, seminars, workshops, and other continuing education as appropriate to maintain and enhance professional knowledge and/or job skills.

Job Knowledge: must be able to design, specify, operate, test, maintain, and upgrade the following systems: Building Automation Controls system, Environmental and Temperature Monitoring systems. Must be able to use and interpret test equipment to diagnose issues in electrical, mechanical, fluid, and ventilation systems. Familiarity and understanding of applicable regulatory codes and standards are beneficial (National Electric Code, Plumbing Code, NFPA requirements). Additional considerations: healthcare facilities experience is beneficial.

Must be available to be on‑call per department schedule and willing to be available for facilities emergencies.

Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. $29.69 - $44.55 per hour
