Job description

Ameresco, Inc. (NYSE:AMRC) is a leading energy solutions provider dedicated to helping customers reduce costs, enhance resilience, and decarbonize to net zero in the global energy transition. We are a trusted, full-service partner to public sector and government entities, K-12 schools, higher education, utilities, and healthcare customers across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Europe. At Ameresco, we show the way by developing, constructing and operating tailored smart energy efficiency solutions, distributed energy resources, and infrastructure upgrades that drive cost savings, resilience, decarbonization, and innovation. Our comprehensive portfolio is built to address the challenges of today and adapt the future, ensuring long-term sustainability and success for our customers.

Ameresco's Smart Building Solutions Group is hiring students graduating in December 2026 or spring 2027 who want to begin a career in building automation and controls. Building automation systems use sensors, controllers, software and networks to help operate a building's heating, cooling and other mechanical systems efficiently and reliably. As an entry-level technician, you'll learn how these systems are installed, tested, programmed and commissioned while working alongside experienced controls professionals on active projects. This is a full-time, entry-level position, not an internship. Previous professional controls experience is not required. If you have a strong HVAC or electrical foundation, enjoy troubleshooting and want to learn the controls side of the industry, we want to talk with you. The role combines hands-on field work with laptop-based troubleshooting and system checkout. Some days you may be installing or testing devices in a mechanical room. Other days you may be reviewing drawings, troubleshooting a controls issue or helping get a building automation system up and running.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with installation of control panels, field devices, sensors and actuators under the guidance of senior technicians.
  • Pull, label and terminate control wiring in accordance with company standards and electrical codes.

  • Help identify wiring, device and communication issues on active projects.
  • Use meters, diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot control system performance.
  • Maintain accurate as-built notes, redline drawings and daily progress records.
  • Build foundational knowledge of HVAC equipment, mechanical systems, Direct Digital Controls (DDC), controls programming, building automation system graphics and control networks.
  • Perfom other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Coursework, labs, an internship or other hands‑on experience involving HVAC, electrical controls, building automation, networking or programming.
  • Basic familiarity with electrical wiring practices, hand tools and test equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic wiring diagrams and construction drawings.
  • Mechanical aptitude, attention to detail and a genuine interest in learning building controls.
Additional Qualifications
  • Strong communication, teamwork, reliability and a safety-conscious approach.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders and work safely in construction and mechanical environments.

Early-career applicants are encouraged to apply. Professional controls experience is not required. Coursework, labs, projects, internships and other technical experience all count.
