Bowen Elementary School in Newton, Massachusetts is seeking a Building Aide (Long Term Substitute) to provide instructional coverage and general support across the building for a 12-week period starting immediately.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or minimum of 60 college credit hours (education, special education, psychology or related field preferred).
  • ParaPro Assessment may substitute for educational requirements.
  • Written language, technology skill and interpersonal communication skill to support communication among team members, with community contacts, school staff and parents is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional coverage for a classroom, small group or individual student.
  • Assist the classroom teacher in all aspects of the school day.
  • Support instruction by working with students individually and in small groups.
  • Prepare instructional materials.
  • Assist in classroom set up and clean up.
  • Consistent and on-time attendance is required for supervision and instruction of the students.
  • Manage individual and classroom behavior.
  • Supervise students with self-care skills as needed.
  • Assist in the main office (monitoring doors, answering the phone, mail, arrival/dismissal routines, attendance) and provide coverage in the absence of the secretary.

SUMMARY

The building aide is responsible for a range of duties that provide support throughout the building.

This is a long term substitute role for 12 weeks.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate’s degree or minimum of 60 college credit hours (classes in education, special education, psychology or a related field preferred).
  • Successful completion of ParaPro Assessment may be substituted for educational requirements.
  • Written language, technology skill and interpersonal communication skill to support communication among team members, with community contacts, school staff and parents is required
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably in education, special education, psychology or related field)
  • Experience working with children in a daycare setting or children/young adults in a school setting or recreation setting
JOB FUNCTIONS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to operate computer, printer, telephone, copier, facsimile machine, and all other standard office equipment
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Sufficient mobility to navigate within a large or small school building
  • Regularly required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds
