Job summary

Aalo Atomics in Austin, TX is seeking a Build and Test Technician to turn designs into hardware. You will work hands-on with our engineering team to assemble, wire, integrate, and test reactor subsystems and supporting infrastructure.

This fast-paced role requires pride in building things right the first time on a hardware-rich floor. Qualifications include 2+ years of hands-on build and test experience, strong tool proficiency, and the ability to read schematics and GD&T.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience assembling and testing complex electromechanical hardware in prototype, R&D, aerospace, automotive, energy, or similar hard-tech environment.
  • Strong hand tool proficiency—comfortable with wrenches, torque tools, drills, taps, and precision measurement instruments.
  • Solid electrical fundamentals: ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams, build harnesses, terminate connectors, solder, crimp, and troubleshoot circuits with a multimeter.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, GD&T, and assembly work instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble mechanical, electrical, and fluid subsystems from drawings, work instructions, and schematics.
  • Fabricate and route wiring harnesses; terminate connectors; solder and crimp to IPC standards.
  • Install and integrate sensors, instrumentation, actuators, and control hardware on test articles and subsystems.
  • Set up and operate test stands with plumbing, electrical hookups, data acquisition, and instrumentation calibration.
  • Execute test procedures, capture data, and document results, anomalies, and configurations.

About the role

Aalo Atomics isbuilding modular nuclear reactors to power the world’s most demanding energy needs—from AI data centers to industrial sites. As aBuildandTestTechnician, you will be at the heart of turning designs into hardware. You will work hands-on with our engineering team to assemble, wire, integrate,andtestreactor subsystemsandsupporting infrastructure. This is a fast-paced, high-ownership role for someone who thrives in a hardware-rich environmentandtakes pride inbuilding things right the first time. You will move fluidly between thebuildfloorandtheteststand, helping bring prototypes to lifeandvalidating that they perform to spec. If you love working with your hands, solving problems on the fly,andbeing part of a team shipping serious hardware, this role is for you.


How You Will Contribute


  • Assemble mechanical, electrical,andfluid subsystems from engineering drawings, work instructions,andschematics.

  • Fabricateandroute wiring harnesses, terminate connectors,andperform solderingandcrimping to workmanship standards (e.g., IPC-A-610 / J-STD-001).

  • Installandintegrate sensors, instrumentation, actuators,andcontrol hardware ontotestarticlesandreactor subsystems.

  • Set upandoperateteststands, including plumbing, electrical hookups, data acquisition,andinstrumentation calibration.

  • Executetestprocedures, capture data,andclearly document results, anomalies,andas-built configurations.

  • Troubleshoot mechanicalandelectrical faults down to the component levelanddrive issues to resolution alongside engineers.

  • Use hand tools, power tools,andprecision measurement equipment (calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, multimeters) safelyandaccurately.

  • Maintain a clean, organized,andsafety-first work area, following all qualityandsafety protocols.

  • Provide feedback to designandmanufacturing engineers to improve assembly processes, tooling,andhardware manufacturability.


Qualifications


  • Hands-on experience assemblingandtesting complex electromechanical hardware in a prototype, R&D, aerospace, automotive, energy, or similar hard-tech environment.

  • Ability to readandinterpret mechanical drawings, GD&T,andassembly work instructions.

  • Experience withtestsetupandinstrumentation (sensors, thermocouples, pressure transducers, data acquisition systems) is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with fluid systems (pneumatic/hydraulic plumbing, fittings, leak checking) is a plus.

  • Detail-oriented documentation habitsandcomfort logging dataandas-built configurations.

  • Self-directed, adaptable,andable to prioritize in a rapidly changing environment.


Requirements:


  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate, associate degree, or military technical training preferred.

  • 2+ years of relevant hands-onbuildandtestexperience (or equivalent trade/military experience).

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods,andperform work that may involve bending, kneeling,andworking at heights or in confined spaces.

  • Willingness to work extended hours, occasional nights,andweekends to support criticalbuildandtestmilestones.

  • Ability to obtainandmaintain any required site or nuclear facility access clearances.

  • Must be able to work safely around high-voltage systems, pressurized systems,andother industrial hazards, following all applicable safety standards.

  • Comfortable working on-site full-time in Austin, TX.

  • Due to the nature of our work, applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S.andmay be subject to export control (ITAR/EAR)andnuclear regulatory requirements.
