Newport News Public Schools in Newport News, Virginia is seeking an experienced Budget Supervisor to oversee the Budget department, directing all functions of operating and capital budgets and ensuring accurate financial reporting.

The role requires supervising budget staff, developing projections, analyzing data, preparing reports for school board and city council meetings, and maintaining compliance with policy and year-end processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or a related field; 2-5 years of progressively responsible experience in budget preparation and administration in a public or governmental setting.
• Comprehensive knowledge of budgeting and accounting principles, practices, methods and procedures.
• Thorough knowledge of data extraction procedures, spreadsheets and financial systems.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

Responsabilités

• Supervises budget staff to complete budget documents, prepare budget data for awards, and generate monthly school board reports.
• Oversees budgeting processes and administration of the Budget staff including training and performance management.
• Analyzes expenditures and prepares operating budgets for departments and business units; maintains position data and attends teacher allocation meetings.
• Performs complex financial analyses to support the budget development process and models scenarios for funding levels.
• Prepares monthly salary and benefit projections and analyzes variances; ensures compliance with budget policies and year-end processes.
• Develops budgetary presentation slides and communication materials for school board/city council meetings.
• Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
