The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center Health System Buckeye Nurse Residency Program supports new graduate nurses as they transition from nursing student to professional clinician. The full‑time, 12‑month program is housed in multiple hospital campuses and cohorts are added monthly.

The program provides nurse residents with a variety of opportunities to develop critical thinking skills related to clinical practice and safe patient care. It is designed to develop new nurses as leaders and productive health care team members as they advance from novice to competent nurse.

The Buckeye Nurse Residency Program incorporates Patricia Benner's theoretical model of novice to expert and facilitates socialization into the Health System through hands‑on clinical experience, in‑depth classroom and simulation experiences, and ongoing professional and personal development. Each resident receives support from the Nurse Residency Director, unit educator, unit managers, and cohort peers.
