Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, follow directions, and perform basic recipe math.
• Ability to follow diet instructions and menus; prepare food in quantity and season appropriately.
• General knowledge of routine diets or where to find needed information.
• Knowledge to operate kitchen equipment and utensils effectively.

Responsibilities

• Prepare food per menus and diet sheets, following modified diet guidelines.
• Serve items during meals; follow serving sizes and presentation.
• Keep work area clean and sanitized; may perform other cleaning tasks.
• Store and label food and supplies properly.
• May perform light utility tasks when needed.

Who You Are:

We are seeking a candidate with a strong positive attitude toward customer service to act as a Cook. This person will have a genuine interest in working with older adults and be able to engage, motivate, and support both residents and fellow team members. Essential Functions

• 1. The Cook is responsible for the preparation of food items on the menus for the residents, guests, and personnel according to the Food Production sheets; following modified diets in accordance with diet spread as approved by the Consulting Dietician.
• 2. Serves food from the production line during meal periods. Follows serving size standards and presentation guidelines.
• 3. Is responsible for keeping workstation cleaned and sanitized. May be assigned other cleaning duties as necessary.
• 4. Is responsible for properly storing food orders and other supplies. Responsible for properly storing and labeling prepared foods.
• 5. May be asked to perform utility related tasks in the absence of staff.
• 6. Attends in-service training sessions together with co-workers to keep abreast of current knowledge in the field of nutrition and dietary needs.
• 7. Maintain work area and keep the department in compliance with OSHA safety standards.
• 8. Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing.
• 9. Demonstrates the community hospitality promises towards residents, families, associates and vendors.
• 10. Be able to perform work in other areas according to business needs.

Qualifications

• 1. High school graduate or equivalent preferred, but not necessary.
• 2. Must be able to read, write and follow written and verbal directions, and be able to do basic math calculations needed in recipe and production requirements.
• 3. He/she should have the ability to follow diet instructions and menus, know basic methods of preparing food in quantities, and are familiar with seasoning requirements.
• 4. Must have a general knowledge of routine diets or where to find needed information.
• 5. Must know how to operate kitchen equipment and use utensils to greatest advantage.
