Job summary

Gersh Autism Brooklyn, NY, invites a dependable School Safety Officer to join our program for students aged 5-21. You will monitor premises, control access, accompany students and staff, and maintain a calm, professional presence across the campus.

The position runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–3:30 PM with occasional after-hours meetings. Required are a high school diploma or GED, 2 years in security or school safety, and a NYS Security Guard License.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 2 years of security or school safety experience.
• NYS Security Guard License required (8/16 hour).
• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to stay calm in emergencies and high-pressure situations.
• Experience in schools or youth-focused environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and patrol school premises to ensure safety.
• Observe and report suspicious activity or security concerns.
• Sign visitors and manage building access with daily records.
• Create and distribute visitor badges and guide guests.
• Respond to alarms, incidents, or emergencies calmly.
• Write detailed reports of daily activities and incidents.
• Assist with dismissal procedures and transportation coordination.
• Monitor for rule infractions and safety violations; notify leadership.
