Job summary

House of Raeford is seeking a Broiler Technician (Serviceman) to provide field service and technical support to contract broiler farms. You will help ensure animal welfare, bird health, housing conditions, biosecurity, and production efficiency while visiting farms and liaising with the live production team.

The role involves evaluating flock performance, resolving issues, and drawing blood or tissue samples as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in animal science/biology/agriculture or related field preferred.
• No prior poultry experience required, but general knowledge of animal husbandry preferred.
• A valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a professional relationship with Contract producers.
• Inspect farms for compliance with contractual grower agreements.
• Follow the company’s safety policies and biosecurity guidelines.
• Maintain and monitor flock health and welfare practices.
• Draw blood and collect tissue samples according to guidelines.
• Record detailed flock data and communicate findings to the Broiler Manager.
• Coordinate with management and service techs to plan schedules.
• Attend mandatory classroom training.

Job description

The Broiler Technician (Serviceman) is responsible for providing field service and technical support to contract broiler farms. This role ensures that growers follow company standards for animal welfare, bird health, housing conditions, biosecurity, and production efficiency. The technician routinely visits farms, evaluates flock performance, resolves issues, and acts as the main liaison between growers and the live production team.

Education- Bachelor’s degree in animal science/biology/agriculture or related field preferred.

Experience- No prior poultry experience is required; however, a general knowledge of animal husbandry practices is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations- A valid driver’s license is required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain a working, professional relationship with Contract producers
• Inspect farms for compliance with contractual grower agreements
• Follow the company’s safety policies
• Adhere to strict biosecurity guidelines established by the company
• Maintain selected rodent programs
• Draws blood and collects tissue samples according to local, state, and federal guidelines
• Dealing with poultry bloodborne pathogens
• Monitor farm conditions and uphold all animal welfare practices
• Monitors bird health and communicates this with the Broiler Manager
• Work closely with management and service techs planning schedules
• Perform water and spray vaccinations
• Keep detailed flock records
• Must be flexible to sudden program changes resulting from weather, disaster, disease, etc.
• Understand and support best management practices
• Efficient in computer programs such as Excel, Word, etc.
• Legible writing skills
• Attend mandatory classroom training
• Maintain a company vehicle with scheduling needed maintenance
• Work with State and company Veterinarians
• Mathematical Skills, problem-solving- must be able to perform basic math calculations, read graphs, and sort data. Must be able to solve practical problems. Must be able to follow instructions, manage time wisely, be self-motivated, and plan schedules.
• Communication Skills- must be able to communicate effectively in face-to-face as well as phone call situations. Must have the ability to effectively write routine reports.
• Physical Demands- Hands are regularly used to handle birds. Candidate will walk, sit, reach, stretch, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs. The environment being worked in will require a tolerance to dust, foul odors, hot and cold conditions, rainy and dry conditions. Must be able to tolerate inconsistent start and stop times, as well as perform postmortem examinations. Additional duties may be assigned.
