Job summary

Civic Media is expanding its engineering team and seeks a Broadcast Engineer (Full‑Time) to support the technical infrastructure across Wisconsin stations. You will install, troubleshoot, and maintain studio and transmitter equipment, ensuring top‑quality audio and continuous on‑air operations.

Travel to sites in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is required, and a company vehicle is provided.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of experience in radio station engineering (studio and transmitter support), or an equivalent combination of education and experience (a degree in Engineering or a related field may substitute for some experience).
  • Proficiency with RF systems (transmitters, antennas, combiners) and IP-based broadcast systems is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of broadcast audio systems across the entire chain, from studio to transmitter.
  • Strong working knowledge of FM and Directional and Non-Directional AM transmission systems.
  • Regulatory compliance with FCC rules and safety standards (OSHA, FAA, etc) is required.
  • High level of computer proficiency and IT literacy; comfortable with audio routing, automation control, remote equipment monitoring, and related software.
  • Project and time management abilities in a fast-paced environment; strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to document technical information clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair broadcast equipment across studios and transmitter sites to ensure optimal performance.
  • Support studio and remote operations, including audio consoles, routing systems, automation platforms, and related PC hardware.
  • Document all equipment installations, wiring configurations, maintenance routines, repairs, and replacements; maintain compliance records.
  • Plan and execute technical projects with the engineering team, ensuring on-schedule delivery and adherence to specifications.
  • Respond quickly to outages and malfunctions; diagnose issues and implement solutions to minimize downtime and maintain broadcast continuity.
