Job summary

UNAVAILABLE is seeking a Broadband Technician to install, maintain, and repair fiber optic cables and service drops across on-site locations in Alaska. You will deploy customer access equipment, splice fibers, test connections, and ensure reliable internet delivery while following safety policies and working with limited supervision.

The role requires on-site field work, plus the ability to respond to service orders, perform equipment maintenance, and operate 4-wheelers and snowmobiles.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with fiber optic installation, splicing, and troubleshooting preferred.
• Familiarity with aerial cable installation and safety protocols preferred.
• Ability to operate and maintain specialized equipment, including 4-wheelers and snowmobiles.
• A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three years preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install and terminate fiber optic cables, including aerial service drops.
• Respond to service orders and trouble tickets for installations, troubles, upgrades, removals or changes.
• Install ONTs, fiber jacks, fiber jumpers, terminals, pedestals, splitters, protectors, modems/routers and other hardware.
• Perform splicing and testing of fiber optic cables.
• Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues in the field using test equipment.
• Perform regular inspections and maintenance of aerial fiber infrastructure.
• Maintain splicing equipment and tools.
• Document splicing activities and updates to system maps.
• Conduct general property upkeep including snow removal and cleaning.
• Perform routine office maintenance and repairs on equipment and maintain site logs.
• Perform safety inspections to ensure compliance with standards.
• Ensure inventory is maintained and reported for items used by technicians.
• Operate and maintain 4-wheelers and snowmobiles.
• Climb wooden poles to install and maintain aerial fiber connections.

Job Description

The Broadband Technician will perform installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables and service drops,installation,maintenanceand repair of customer access equipment,as well as splicing and testing fiber optic cables.Operating in a safe and proper manner asset forth incompany policy and without constant direct supervision. This role also includes general upkeep of village property and equipment, ensuring reliable internet service delivery to customers.

Responsibilities

• Install andterminatefiber optic cables, including aerial service drops.

• Respond to service orders and trouble tickets for new installations, troubles, upgrades,removalsor changes to customer’s residential or commercial broadband services.

• Install ONT’s, fiber jacks, fiber jumpers, terminals, pedestals, splitters, protectors, modems/routers and other hardware and equipment associated with providing fiber broadband services.

• Perform splicing and testing of fiber optic cables.

• Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues in the field,utilizingtest equipment and meters suchas;OTDR’s, light source and power meter, Wi-Fi signal testers, etc.

• Perform regular inspections and maintenance of aerial fiber infrastructure.

• Maintain splicing equipment and tools.

• Document splicing activities and updates to system maps.

• Conduct general property upkeep, including shoveling snow, weed whacking, and cleaning.

• Perform routine office maintenance and/or repairs on equipment (suchas;battery plants and generators, alarms, airfiltersand general fluid levels) and follow procedures formaintainingsite logs and records.

• Perform safety inspections to ensure compliance with standards.

• Ensure company inventory ismaintainedand reported for itemsutilizedby technicians.

• Operate andmaintain4-wheelers and snowmobiles.

• Climb wooden poles to install andmaintainaerial fiber connections.
