As a Broadband Technician I, you will perform basic installations, disconnects and service changes for residential and business customers. These services include, but are not limited to, video service, HSD Services, and home phone service and installation. This role performs basic troubleshooting from the tap to the customer's electronic devices (TV, DVD, Modem, etc.). This position will assist with installing, splicing, repairing and maintaining aerial, buried, and/or underground fiber optic and copper cable.

Due to in-field support and on-call requirements, the individual selected for this position will be required to reside within a 60-minute driving distance from the Hobbs, NM warehouse located at: 2320 E Marland St, Hobbs, NM 88240.

This position can be hired at either a Broadband Technician I (2025-27961) or Broadband Technician II (2025-27962) level depending on the skills and qualifications of the candidate. Different job postings exist for each of these positions. Please reference each job posting for the minimum qualifications required for each role and submit an application for each level that you are both interested and qualified for.

Responsibilities
  • Perform connects (new connects and reconnects), disconnects (requested and non-pays), upgrades, downgrades, and relocates; install additional outlets and install or remove equipment (i.e. converters).
  • Perform basic installation of all necessary cable wiring (interior and exterior) and hardware from the tap to the customer's equipment for reception of cable and other company services that are offered for single and multi-family. This may include burial of underground broadband facilities using various methods including excavation or hand digging for the placement of drop facilities to the customer premise, streets and right of way; placement of conduit to the customer premise and in streets/right of way, as well as pulling hardline into conduits after placement. Position may also be responsible for conduit structure in new subdivision joint trench construction projects.
  • Perform all work to conform to quality control guidelines (compliance with OSHA, FCC, NEC, and NESC requirements).
  • Assure proper signal levels and picture quality on all television sets, and clean the premises of all debris after installation is complete.
  • Monitor and record system, drop, and in-house leakage; properly record all required information on work orders, surveys, referrals, etc.
  • Promote cable, internet, and other company services; educate customers on proper use of the service, including adding services, channel lineups, and equipment usage.
  • Clean, maintain, stock, and secure assigned vehicle and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs and customer obligations.

Other Qualifications

  • Upon hire, must successfully complete customer-specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
  • Requires being available for on-call/standby responsibilities and may require occasional travel. Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
  • Upon hire, must successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
  • Ability to maintain DOT requirements related to operating vehicles with a combined GVRW > 10,000 lbs.
  • Reliable and responsible, with a strong work ethic and team orientation.
  • Practical knowledge/experience with computer applications.
  • Familiarity with company products and services.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated customer service and sales skills, along with effective verbal and written communications for interactions with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Physical requirements include digging, lifting, and climbing as needed by the role.
  • Successful completion of the SCTE Broadband Premise Install test within the first 3 months of employment.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, stand, write and operate a computer keyboard, and communicate with customers. The associate may move about, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May require balancing or climbing. Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May work outdoors or in mechanical/equipment rooms and may be exposed to extreme weather and moving parts.
