Job summary

HNTB Corporation in Harrisburg, PA is seeking a motivated Bridge Inspection Engineer with field experience to assist in inspecting highway bridges across Pennsylvania. The role involves 70% field work, report writing, data collection, and load rating analyses as part of diverse infrastructure projects for HNTB’s clients.

The position may involve design or drafting tasks and requires a Bachelor’s in Engineering with relevant field experience (or a Master’s).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 2 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in Engineering with 1 year of relevant experience.
• Experience inspecting highway bridges in field environments.
• Proficient in MS Office and engineering software (MicroStation/AutoCAD).
• Completion of NHI Bridge Inspection Course (130055) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Completes assigned work within the schedule and hours provided.
• Prepares and/or modifies portions of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
• Develops project quantities and assists with cost estimates.
• Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.
• Self-sufficiently completes tasks including research, data collection, field investigations, development and design of projects.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Do

• Completes assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
• Responsible for preparation and/or modification for select portions of project reports, plans, designs, and calculations.
• Develops project quantities and assists with development of cost estimates.
• Assists engineering teams with organization and administrative support of design files.
• Able to self-sufficiently complete various tasks and duties including but not limited to research, data collection, field investigations, development, and design of projects.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in Engineering and 1 year of relevant experience.

What You’ll Bring

• Work at field site to complete bridge inspections primarily in central Pennsylvania; however, work may extend to any location within PA.
• Experience with inspecting highway bridges.
• Exhibits proficiency in applying engineering, geometric and algebraic principles in your work.
• Displays proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and MicroStation and/or AutoCad or other software as required for job assignments.

What We Prefer

• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
• NHI Safety Inspection of Bridges (130055)
• Knowledgeable in PennDOT Pub 238, Pub 100A, and BMS3
• Experience with load rating analyses.
• Knowledgeable in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
