Job summary

WSP USA in Denver is seeking a Bridge Inspection Project Manager/Team Leader to guide the Mountain/Pacific Northwest Region Bridge Inspection Group. The role supports business development and leads complex inspections for state, transit, and local clients.

You will manage projects, mentor staff, oversee budgets and schedules, and coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies. Travel will be required to perform field inspections and client meetings across multiple states.

Qualifications

  • BSCE from ABET-accredited program required.
  • PE license required or ability to obtain.
  • 10+ years NBIS bridge inspection experience with transportation clients.
  • Experience leading bridge inspection projects and teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead larger, complex bridge inspection projects with budget and schedule oversight.
  • Secure bridge inspection and load rating work with state, transit, and local clients.
  • Mentor staff and guide junior team members.
  • Manage and negotiate contracts and communicate with agencies and stakeholders.

Job description

Bridge Inspection Project Manager/Team Leader

WSP is initiating a search for a Bridge Inspection Project Manager/Team Leader for our Mountain/Pacific Northwest Region Bridge Inspection Group. The position is based in our Denver office with flexibility to work from Utah, Arizona, Idaho, or Montana. You will collaborate closely with the Mountain/Pacific Northwest Region Bridge Inspection Group Lead on a full‑time basis, engaging in business development and securing bridge/structure inspection and/or load rating work for state, transit, and local clients. The role will involve leading structural inspections as the region’s group expands, with travel required for client interaction and structural inspections.

Your Impact
  • Provide proactive and strategic leadership for the bridge inspection discipline, offering direction, expertise, and support to ensure project and deliverables are successfully achieved within the business sector.
  • Lead larger‑scale, more complex bridge inspection projects, ensuring contributors know what they are required to do, monitoring budgets, tracking hours and expenses, and supervising subcontractors and employees.
  • Responsible for pursuing and developing bridge inspection business and executing work for current and potential clients within the region.
  • Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.
  • Support the long‑term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Bridge Inspection work for WSP in the region.
  • Ensure profitable performance of individual projects and successful completion within specified areas.
  • Assist with annual updates to business tactical action plans.
  • Meet with public or private entities to discuss engineering challenges and programs.
  • Schedule engineering discipline meetings, provide updates, and recommend best practices.
  • Act as a lead representative to federal, state, local agencies, clients, subcontractors, and community entities.
  • Develop proposals, project scopes, timelines, pricing, and budgetary metrics in compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.
  • Interpret and summarize data, including reports and documents, to reach sound engineering conclusions.
  • Provide verbal and written inputs to multidisciplinary teams and deliver strategic advice to clients.
  • Build a client base for bridge inspection services while exploring additional business development opportunities and cross‑selling WSP capabilities.
  • Mentor staff and support their growth and professional development.
  • Manage and provide performance guidance and leadership to assigned staff.
  • Remain current in latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
  • Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide trusted advisor service and future‑ready solutions for clients.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineering Licensure.
  • 10+ years of bridge inspection (NBIS) experience with transportation clients.
  • Bridge Inspection Project Manager/Team Leader with successful management of bridge inspection projects.
  • NBIS Certified Bridge Inspection Team Leader with up‑to‑date certifications.
  • NHI/FHWA Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges/Nonredundant Steel Tension Steel Members Certificate (130078).
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong self‑leadership, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize in a dynamic work environment.
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal oversight while guiding junior team members, following QA/QC standards.
  • Physical capability to perform continuous field work, including working at heights, climbing, carrying ladders, and operating in adverse weather.
  • Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking for problem solving.
  • Team‑oriented approach.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and direct team members.
  • Proficiency in time and budget management.
  • Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Successful completion of WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NTIS Certified Tunnel Inspection Team Leader with up‑to‑date certifications.
  • Additional FHWA/NHI/OSHA Training:
    • 130087 Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures.
    • 135086 Plan of Action for Scour Critical Bridges.
    • 135047 Stream Stability and Scour at Highway Bridges for Bridge Inspectors.
    • OSHA 10‑hour or 30‑hour Training.
  • Experience inspecting railroad and complex bridges, tunnels, and ancillary structures.
  • Familiarity with NDT techniques and UAS applications.
  • Familiarity with rope access techniques and/or UAS operations.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $120,000 - $187,000
Expected Salary (Colorado only): $135,000 - $200,000
WSP reserves the right to adjust the salary within the posted range and offer additional compensation based on experience and geographic location, provided it is not based on protected status.
