Job summary

Fishbeck is seeking a Bridge Engineer to join our Michigan Transportation team. You will support bridge design, analysis, plan preparation, inspections, scoping, load rating, and related consulting services for MDOT and local municipalities.

Responsibilities include collaborating with engineers on design and calculations, assisting with budgets and schedules, and applying design software to high-quality transportation projects.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering required or working toward PE licensure.
  • 0-4+ years bridge engineering experience desirable.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD and MDOT standards is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on bridge design, analysis, calculations, and plan preparation.
  • Support fieldwork related to bridge safety inspections, scoping, and load rating.
  • Assist in developing project budgets, schedules, reports, and documentation.
  • Apply civil engineering principles and design software to transportation projects.
  • Coordinate with staff across disciplines on MDOT and local projects.

Job description

Location: Grand Rapids, Lansing, or Farmington Hills, MI

Employment Type: Full-Time

Working with our Michigan Transportation team, you will support bridge design, analysis, plan preparation, inspections, scoping, load rating, and related consulting engineering services for MDOT and local municipality projects.

What You’ll Do
  • Work with experienced professional engineers on bridge design, analysis, calculations, and plan preparation.
  • Support occasional fieldwork related to bridge safety inspections, bridge project scoping, and bridge load rating.
  • Assist in developing project budgets, schedules, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Apply civil engineering principles and specialized design software to support high-quality transportation projects.
  • Collaborate with Fishbeck technical staff across disciplines to deliver bridge design and consulting engineering services, primarily for MDOT and local municipalities.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
  • 0-4+ years of related bridge engineering experience desired.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification desired; Professional Engineer license is a plus.
  • Internship or bridge design experience with working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications is a plus.
  • Preferred knowledge of MDOT bridge standards and design manuals.
  • Preferred knowledge of Bentley OpenRoads Designer or MicroStation software.
  • Knowledge of design software such as LEAP Bridge Concrete and Steel Design, MDX Steel Design,or AASHTOWare-BrR
  • Excellent computer skills and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, quality-focused, collaborative, and capable of planning work effectively in a project team environment.
