Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Bridge Engineer in California to join our Transportation Business Group. You will apply structural engineering and detailing techniques on projects ranging from bridges to interchange design, using advanced software to develop details and perform load calculations.

You will review junior staff work and supervise engineers as needed. The role requires a Bachelor's degree, prior bridge design experience, and a PE license or eligibility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline is required.
  • Professional engineer license or PE eligibility preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of bridge design experience.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Apply structural engineering and detailing techniques on bridge projects.
  • Work on designs including steel plate girder, prestressed concrete, and cable-stayed interfaces.
  • Develop structural details using design software and perform load calculations.
  • Review and check designs produced by junior engineers and EITs; supervise staff as needed.
  • Participate in project teamwork and client communications.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Bridge Engineer, we'll count on you to:
  • Apply structural engineering and detailing techniques
  • Work on projects that typically include bridge (steel plate girder, prestress concrete, segmental and cable) box culvert, and interchange design for highway and railway projects
  • Select standard bridge engineering/design procedures, develop structural details using specialized structural design and analysis software, and perform structural load calculations and assist with geometric layout and quantity development
  • Review, assign work and/or check design calculations, estimates, and specifications produced by junior engineers and EITs
  • Supervise other junior engineers and/or EITs
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in bridge design.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience in bridge design
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and engineering software packages such as: LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge.
  • Knowledge of ADINA, LUSAS, Bentley OpenBridge Designer and OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation, AutoCAD, MathCAD, LARSA, Prestress Concrete Design
  • Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software
  • Experience managing junior staff
  • Excellent communication skills and working in a team environment
