Job summary

HDR is seeking a Bridge Engineer in Anchorage, AK to support bid plans for bridges and related structures. You will apply structural design, analysis, and detailing techniques, develop details with software, and assist with load calculations and geometry.

The role involves project management on various sizes, review of work by junior engineers, and potential mega projects. A PE license and several design tools knowledge are required.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is preferred.
  • SE license in AK or equivalent with ability to be licensed in AK.
  • 3 years' experience in bridge design including calculations, plan development, specification development, and cost estimating.

Are you passionate about bridges and their structure and design? HDR is looking for a Bridge Engineer to join our Nationally ranked team of professionals in Anchorage, AK. The primary responsibilities of the Bridge Engineer include:

Applying structural design, analysis, and detailing techniques to support the design and development of bid plans for bridges and other structures. Projects may include highway bridges (steel plate girder, prestressed concrete, and other specialty types), retaining walls, box culverts and associated structures.

Select standard bridge engineering/design procedures, develop structural details using specialized structural design and analysis software, and perform structural load calculations and assist with geometric layout and quantity development

  • D eveloping structural details using specialized software (Microstation, MathCAD, LARSA, CSiBridge or various concrete and steel design or analysis programs),
  • Bridge inspection
  • Performing structural load rating calculations as well as assisting with geometric layout and bridge type studies.
  • Some CADD plan production may also be required.
  • This position may be assigned to serve on larger bridge projects nationally and may include mega alternate delivery projects.
  • Serve as project manager or structures task lead on projects of varying sizes
  • Review, assign work and/or check design calculations, estimates, and specifications produced by junior engineers and EITs
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • SE license in AK or equivalent professional registration with the ability to become licensed in AK.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in bridge design including design calculations, plan development, specification development, and cost estimating.
  • Experience in project management for small to medium sized projects.
  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand.

Required Qualifications

Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.

  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and engineering software packages such as: LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge.
  • Knowledge of ADINA, LUSAS, Bentley OpenBridge Designer and OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation, AutoCAD, MathCAD, LARSA, Prestress Concrete Design
  • Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software
  • Experience managing junior staff
  • Excellent communication skills and working in a team environment
