Job summary

Othon, Inc. in Houston, TX seeks a Bridge Design Engineer with a TX PE and 10+ years of highway bridge experience. You will lead design calculations, layouts, and reports, while mentoring junior staff and coordinating with CAD teams. Knowledge of TxDOT processes and OpenBridge tools is essential.

The role reports to the Structures Business Group Leader and involves cross-disciplinary collaboration to deliver signed, sealed plans and technical deliverables for highway projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (structures emphasis preferred) from an ABET accredited institution.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas.
• 10+ years of experience designing highway bridges.
• Experience with TxDOT design and plan development.
• Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
• Knowledge of MicroStation drafting software.
• Knowledge of TxDOT design software such as BGS and PGSUPER.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide detailed design calculations in support of signed and sealed plan sheets.
• Provide preliminary layouts, specifications, bills of quantities and final plan sheets.
• Prepare written bridge type selection reports.
• Review the work of other engineers.
• Train and mentor less experienced engineers.
• Supervise and review the work of CAD drafting technicians.
• Work closely with other disciplines within the company.

We are looking for a self-motivated, aggressively enterprising individual wanting to expand their career opportunities within a growing consulting engineering firm. The qualified applicant will be a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Texas with experience in structural engineering as applied to highway bridges and other related highway structures. The applicant will perform the following tasks: provide detailed design calculations in support of signed and sealed plan sheets; provide preliminary layouts, specifications, bill of quantities and final plan sheets; prepare written bridge type selection reports; review the work of other engineers; train and mentor less experienced engineers; supervise and review the work of CAD drafting technicians; work closely with other disciplines within the company. Preferred requirements: • A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (emphasis on structures) from an ABET accredited institution. • Experience with OpenBridge Modeler and/or OpenBridge Designer. • Ability to attain reciprocity in other states for professional licensing. • Working knowledge of VBent substructure design software. • Working knowledge of GEOPAK.
