Job summary

Metro Associates is seeking a Bridge Design Engineer in Buffalo, NY to support structural design, analysis, and inspections for Western New York transportation projects.

The role focuses on load rating, foundation design, and producing design plans, with field inspections and QA/QC contributions. EIT is required and PE licensure is preferred; 5–10 years of transport experience is expected.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 5–10 years of transportation experience with a structures or bridge design background.
• EIT required; PE licensure preferred or ability to obtain licensure.
• Proficiency in MicroStation, STAAD, and bridge design software.
• Familiarity with NYSDOT or PennDOT design standards.

Responsibilities

• Structural engineering, including load rating, structural analysis, and foundation design.
• Develop design plans, construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Conduct field inspections, prepare bridge inspection reports, and maintain detailed project records.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable DOT, state, local, regulatory, and safety standards.
• Support project managers with schedules, documentation, QA/QC, and construction-phase technical support.
• Collaborate with clients, agencies, subconsultants, contractors, and internal teams to support successful delivery.

Bridge Design Engineer - Buffalo, NY

Bridge Design Engineer - Civil / Structural

Design Western New York bridge and transportation structures supporting Buffalo-area infrastructure, NYSDOT, municipal clients, waterfront corridors, rehabilitation programs, inspections, load ratings, and public-agency projects across Erie and Niagara County markets.

In addition to supporting the Western New York market, this bridge engineering role helps advance structural design, analysis, inspection, documentation, construction support, and multidisciplinary transportation delivery across New York, Pennsylvania, and our client’s broader regional operations.

Our services span civil/site engineering, transportation engineering, landscape architecture, architecture, planning, environmental services, land surveying, GIS, construction inspection, precast, and construction engineering, each offering opportunities to shape communities and improve lives.

What You’ll Do

What We’re Looking For

• Familiarity with state DOT design standards, including NYSDOT or PennDOT preferred.
