Job summary

Greenman-Pedersen Inc. seeks a Bridge Coatings Inspector to join our Construction Services team in Charleston, WV. You will perform QA inspections of bridge painting and coatings, monitor environmental controls, and document field data for ongoing preservation projects across West Virginia.

The role requires AMPP CIP 1+ or SSPC/AMPP BCI certification, strong written communication, and the ability to work at heights. Travel and varied shifts may be required; a valid driver’s license is essential.

Qualifications

• AMPP CIP Level 1 or higher certification required or SSPC/AMPP Bridge Coatings Inspector certification.
• Experience inspecting bridge painting, industrial coatings, or corrosion protection projects.
• Knowledge of protective coating systems and coating inspection procedures.
• Ability to work at heights and access bridges via lifts/scaffolding/inspection platforms.
• Strong written communication and documentation skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Perform quality assurance inspection of bridge painting and coating operations.
• Inspect surface preparation, abrasive blasting, environmental conditions, containment systems, and coating application activities.
• Verify contractor compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and owner requirements.
• Monitor lead paint removal, waste handling, containment, and environmental controls.
• Record coating thickness measurements, surface profile readings, and environmental data.
• Prepare detailed daily inspection reports, photographs, and project documentation.
• Coordinate with contractors, project managers, and agency representatives to resolve field issues.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA safety requirements and project-specific safety plans.
• Travel throughout West Virginia and surrounding states as project needs require.
• Work daytime, nighttime, and weekend shifts as necessary to support construction schedules.

• Experience inspecting bridge painting, industrial coatings, or corrosion protection projects.
• Knowledge of protective coating systems, surface preparation standards, and coating inspection procedures.
• Ability to work at heights and access bridges using lifts, scaffolding, or inspection platforms.
• Strong written communication and documentation skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred

• Preferred AMPP CIP Level 2 or higher.
• SSPC/AMPP C-3 Lead Competent Person Training.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Experience with bridge rehabilitation and transportation infrastructure projects.
• Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) experience.
• Familiarity with WVDOH, PennDOT, or other DOT bridge coating specifications.

Requirements

• Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration.
• Possess a personal vehicle for use on or around a job site.
• Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language.
• Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members.
• Able to stand for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 8 hours.
• Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.).
• Able to climb and leave a ladder to a platform varying from 6' to 20'.
• Able to wear and operate personal fall arresting apparatus, and work at a height of 6' or higher.
• Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working.
