• Strong herd health knowledge with fresh cow monitoring and treatment protocols.
• Experience with hospital, special needs, or fresh cow groups preferred.
• Strong animal handling skills with a calm, patient approach.
• Ability to work independently and follow established protocols with attention to detail.
• Spanish-speaking ability preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and record-keeping skills.

This position is primarily focused on reproductive management, with an average of approximately 100 cows bred per week, while also assisting with day-to-day herd responsibilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for administering synchronization and reproduction protocols, performing artificial insemination on cows and heifers, and maintaining accurate breeding records using herd management software. This individual will work closely with the Herd Manager and veterinarian to monitor reproductive performance, evaluate breeding results, and ensure established protocols are consistently followed. In addition to reproduction duties, the Breeder / Assistant Herdsman will assist with fresh cow monitoring, herd health checks, administering treatments, and supporting special needs or hospital barn activities as needed. Responsibilities may include identifying and treating sick animals, assisting with calvings, monitoring transition cows, and ensuring timely follow-up on health concerns. The position requires strong attention to detail, excellent observation skills, and the ability to recognize issues early and take appropriate action.
