Qualifications

  • Must be ARRT registered in Mammography.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents patient and family education activities.
  • Provides age specific care for adult and geriatric population.
  • Positioning and imaging of breast to visualize optimum tissue.
  • Operates Mammography, DEXA, and ultrasound equipment.
  • Performs invasive breast procedures (biopsies, wire/magseeds localizations).
  • Maintains compliance with radiation safety standards and patient safety goals.
  • Documents exam information and manages outside images.
  • Assists physicians and technologists with procedures.
  • Reviews and communicates biopsy pathology results to radiologist.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY:To apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis in accordance with policy and procedure, practicing radiation safety methods at all time. To select appropriate technical factors limiting the need for re-exposure and in accordance with equipment operating guidelines.To apply patient care, communicating the procedure performed, lessening apprehension and in accordance with the hospital’s Patent’s Rights policies. Mammography skills to include: the ability to perform screening, diagnostic, coned down spot compression, magnification, implant displaced and specimen views, the ability to modify care according to age, and the ability to assist the physician with cyst aspirations, needle localization and stereotactic breast biopsies.Job Responsibilities:Performs and documents patient and family education activities including assessing, performing and documentingProvides age specific care for adult and geriatric population.Supports patient’s rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural and religious diversityMammography:Positions patient properly to visualize optimum breast tissueAccurately identifies images and includes patient historyProficiently operates Mammography and DEXA equipmentInvasive breast procedures such as biopsies, stereotactic, localizations(wire/magseeds)Understands and performs QC tests if assigned by the supervisorFollows protocol for notifying patients of mammography resultsRecords the receipt and return of all outside mammography images to original facilityAssists physicians, and other technologists with proceduresMaintains compliance with Patient Safety GoalsIs in compliance with all radiation safety standardsDocuments all interventions and completes accurately and in a timely manner all exam informationUltrasound:Performs diagnostic breast ultrasound imagingUS breast procedures such as biopsies, aspirations, localizations(wire/magseeds)Ensure appropriate consent forms are signed by the patient or responsible party for invasive breast proceduresReview the medical record for patient history acquiring pertinent clinical informationProficiently operate all functions of US equipmentSelect the proper transducer(s) for examination(s) being performedAdjust Doppler/color Doppler controls to optimize display of dataDocumenting and reviewing specimensTracking pathology results and providing results to the radiologistEducation Requirements and Other Requirements:High school diploma or equivalent.Formal radiologic technology training in AMA approved school.Must be ARRT registered and IDNS licensed unrestricted.Must be ARRT registered in Mammography.R.D.M.S certified or registry eligibleBreast Sonography Certified or eligibleCurrent BLS: RequiredCurrent IEMA
