Hiring Range:

Breast Imaging Radiologist

Location: Worcester, MA Facility: UMass Memorial Health Department: Radiology Specialty: Breast Radiologist Schedule: Full – Time

UMass Memorial Medical Group seeks a fellowship trained young, midlevel or senior Breast Imaging Radiologist, preferably with a strong research focus to join our growing team. Our competitive compensation and benefits package places us as your top choice in the region.

Key Highlights:
  • We are comprised of ~100 Radiologists, 28 residents, and 10 fellows as well as approximately 25 research faculty and 5 full-time educators, providing comprehensive imaging services through a fully integrated health care system in central Massachusetts.
  • We are the primary academic medical center for UMass Chan Medical School.
  • Our department has state-of-the-art imaging equipment and a fully integrated IT infrastructure EMR (EPIC), PACS, PS-1 and has been at the forefront of implementation of a wide range of AI algorithms.
  • There are numerous opportunities to pursue individual interests in medical student education, Health Services or basic science research and AI, supported by a robust Radiology clinical trials office and image processing core labs.
  • The breast division at UMass, with strong support from basic scientists on the radiology faculty, has been actively involved in numerous national clinical and translational research, involving digital imaging, breast CT and AI evaluations in breast imaging. In the past the department has been the recipient of NIH funded R01 and R21 grants, Mass Life Sciences and Worcester foundation grants.
  • Currently the following studies are ongoing:
  • A prospective trial, the first of its kind funded by Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BRCF) and in collaboration with MIT, evaluating a Mammogram based deep learning model and its impact on CDR in the population.
  • Evaluating the role and impact of AI tools in triaging, turn-around times, positive and negative predictive value in cancer diagnosis and clinical decision support.
  • An ongoing study from a grant by the industry studying the feasibility of low dose MRI (enhanced by AI) and evaluating diagnostic non-inferiority compared to traditional dose MRI.
  • Based on a recent grant by the Mass Life Sciences “Harnessing breast cancer screening for predicting cardiovascular (CV) disease” in collaboration with industry partners and our cardiology division, we plan to quantify breast arterial calcifications using AI algorithms and study correlation with CV events. Subsequently, after reefing and developing this AI algorithm, we plan to prospectively implement this tool to establish clinical guidelines for breast arterial calcification (BAC) reporting.
  • Talks with scientists at UMass Amherst are ongoing to kick start a clinical trial evaluating the rapidly evolving field of optical imaging in breast cancer diagnosis.
  • Assessing the impact of traditional risk assessment model (Tyrer Cuzick) on additional supplemental screening and cancer outcomes in the population.
  • Just concluded an industry sponsored prospective study comparing two macrocyclic Gadolinium based Contrast Agents. Dotarem and Gadavist.
  • We are comprised of 11 Breast Imagers and 1 Breast Imaging Fellow who coordinate clinical care from UMass Memorial’s NAPBC approved Comprehensive Breast Center and multiple ACR designated centers of excellence within a 15–30-mile radius of UMass Memorial Medical Center.
  • Annually, we read approximately 60,000 screening mammograms, 15,000 diagnostic mammograms, 12,000 dedicated breast ultrasounds, 2,250 breast MRIs and 4,250 interventional procedures.
  • We function in a completely digital environment across all UMass Health sites with six 1.5 and two 3T breast MRI systems, 20 tomosynthesis units, 1 2D mammography unit, 12 ultrasound suites, and 2 ABUS suites.
  • All Breast Imaging Radiologists should be able to perform a full range of breast imaging and interventions.
  • Starting in the spring of 2026, Breast Imaging faculty will have the option of reading from home on average of one day per week.
  • Full-time breast imaging faculty are allocated 40 non-clinical (academic days) per year.
