Job summary

Maimonides Medical Center is seeking a full-time Breast Health Nurse Navigator to provide direct nursing care at the Breast Center. You will be responsible for patient assessment, communication, and nursing care interventions in an oncology setting.

The ideal candidate has 2-3 years of experience with oncology patients, current RN licensure, and strong interpersonal skills. This role emphasizes teamwork, critical thinking, and patient-focused care.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of prior experience working with oncology patients, preferably Breast Cancer.
  • Current NYS licensure as RN required.
  • Preferred ONC certification as Certified Breast Care Nurse (CBCN).

BREAST HEALTH NURSE NAVIGATOR

9am - 5pm / Monday - Friday / Full Time

Overview

Under the general supervision of the Nursing Director or Assistant Nursing Director, provides direct nursing care to patients.

Responsibilities
  • Incorporates relevant assessment and intervention skills in the delivery of nursing care.
  • Communicates with patients, colleagues, and management in an accurate, considerate, and timely manner (written, verbal, and electronic).
  • Employs critical thinking skills to achieve outcomes and solve problems.
  • Engages in caring relationships that integrate the influence of the human experience of health, illness, and/or healing, and relationship-based care.
  • Manages assignment and material resources effectively.
  • Applies leadership skills consistent with role and experience.
  • Incorporates teaching in the delivery of care to promote health and prevent disease and documents when appropriate.
  • Integrates relevant knowledge and evidence-based practice (utilizing teamwork and collaboration).
  • Provides specialty-specific care as outlined by Maimonides Medical Center.
  • Indicates an Essential Job Function.
Other Job Duties
  • Maintains competencies in individual field of responsibility.
  • Participates in the interview and evaluation of new health care team members.
  • Acts as preceptor for new health care team members.
  • Utilizes computer systems as they pertain to job responsibilities and in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Assures a safe environment and milieu in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Participates in MMC’s ongoing Quality Performance Improvement initiatives; identifies opportunities for organizational improvements.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Preferred ONC certification as Certified Breast Care Nurse (CBCN) – hire without but expected to obtain within 18 months.
  • 2-3 years of prior experience working with oncology patients (Breast Cancer).
  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing patient needs.
  • A strong sense of accountability.
  • An exceptional focus on teamwork, dedication to ongoing education, and passion to deliver the highest quality of care and service based on a strong sense of patient focus.
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing required; MSN preferred.
  • Current NYS licensure as RN required.
  • Current BLS certification required. Current ACLS certification preferred.
  • Professional nursing experience appropriate to the service and the position.
  • Clinical skills for patient care delivery through the nursing process.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Speaks, reads, and writes English to the extent required by the position; fluency in a second language preferred.
