Description & Requirements

Bloomberg News is looking for a dynamic, versatile, and passionate journalist to join our DC Breaking News team in Washington, DC.

As a Breaking News editor you will be the first to inform Bloomberg clients on any US government story, with a particular focus on the White House. Tariffs, tax changes, antitrust policies and other economic policies will be among the key topics you will focus on -- ie, anything that could impact global financial markets.

You will be responsible for identifying political developments and monitoring social media and web content from other news organizations and government officials. You will send headlines and write or edit short breaking-news stories. You'll work in a fast-paced environment, partnering closely with other breaking news editors and beat teams in Washington, New York and bureaus globally. Markets will rise and fall based on the headlines you send.

When unexpected news breaks, you will jump in to cover it rather than hang back and wait for someone else to take the first step. You understand what serious market participants are looking for amid the daily deluge of information, and you're adept at separating the wheat from the chaff on social media.

If this sounds like you, we want you to join our DC Breaking News team in Washington.

We'll Trust You To

  • Make fast and independent judgement calls on breaking political and government news from the White House
  • Stay poised and focused in a real-time news environment
  • Unearth news from traditional and new-media sources
  • Utilize machine-learning tools
  • Be quick and accurate when writing headlines and stories to deliver the news that matters to financial markets
  • Collaborate with Bloomberg reporters and editors in our Washington, New York and other bureaus
  • Be a constructive, flexible, and dependable team player
  • Use technology and automation to sift through noise and uncover new information
  • Demonstrate strong, independent news judgement

You Need To Have

  • Five or more years of experience covering US politics, financial and business news
  • Familiarity with social media and the ability to unearth news from a platform
  • Proven skill at collaborating and working across teams to accomplish goals
  • Flexibility with hours and assignments. News is unpredictable.
  • An eye for details, facts and numbers
  • A strong ability to adapt and learn new technology
