Title: Breakfast Cook
Department: Market Grille
FLSA: Non‑Exempt
General Function: Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service. Prepares various breakfast foods for the Hy‑Vee Market Grille and is responsible for all hot foods and cold foods, including available heat‑and‑eat varieties. The Breakfast Cook is responsible for prepping a variety of ingredients and assembling dishes according to restaurant recipes and specifications.

Reporting Relations
Accountable and Reports to: District Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Homes; Food Service Manager; Market Grille Department Manager; Assistant Market Grille Department Manager.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide prompt, efficient & friendly customer service, greeting and addressing customers by name where possible.
- Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing out‑of‑reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, and forwarding suggestions.
- Answer telephone promptly and provide helpful service to callers.
- Work collaboratively with co‑workers to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
- Prepare cooking surfaces and ingredients: vegetables, sides, meats, breakfast foods.
- Place food in hot cases, monitor amounts, and refill as necessary.
- Prepare items for upcoming shifts.
- Maintain understanding of all kitchen aspects, proper sanitation procedures, and cleanliness of the work area.
- Adhere to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
- Follow company policies and individual store guidelines.
- Report to work on time according to schedule.
- Know all menu items and be able to take guests’ orders.
Secondary Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide direct customer service when necessary.
- Order product and supplies, or notify department head of needs.
- Assist in other areas of store as needed.
- Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Worker Characteristics
- Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization and interpret instructions.
- Ability to perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, count and record.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies orally or in writing.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Up to six months of similar or related work experience.
Physical Requirements
- Must physically exert up to 50 lbs force occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, and 10 lbs constantly to move objects.
- Visual requirements: vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), and field of vision.
- Must perform activities: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions
This position is frequently exposed to a cool and warm environment, dampness, noise and vibrations from equipment, and possible hazards from slicers and choppers. Daily exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents occurs in a fast‑paced work environment.

- Grill, toaster, coffee machine, oven, steamer, chopper, hot case, kitchen utensils, knives, stove, chicken roaster, can opener, and C.A.R.S. reordering system.
