Job summary

Grand Central Bakery is seeking a Bread Expeditor Coordinator to bridge Bread Production and Delivery. This role safely pulls and expedites wholesale orders, ensuring accuracy and efficiency across all phases. It is the fourth level in the Expeditor series and requires readiness to work flexible hours.

The position is full-time, non-exempt, and overtime-eligible, with a comprehensive benefits package. Reporting to Delivery Assistant Manager, you will collaborate across production and delivery

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • English reading/writing/speaking required; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Must maintain a valid Food Handler's Card and follow health guidelines.
  • Regular attendance and ability to work varied days/shifts including weekends/holidays.
  • HS diploma or GED preferred.
  • Basic arithmetic skills for everyday tasks.
  • Proven ability to work calmly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient with MS Outlook or similar email program.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure staffing needs are met and call in staff as necessary.
  • Differentiate between and describe products.
  • Pull orders, slice and package products accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate counts of products.
  • Understand use of all expediting equipment.
  • Operate bread and bun slicers safely and maintaining quality.
  • Meet quality and pace expectations per training.
  • Escalate quality concerns and make decisions.
  • Direct shortages, substitutions, and invoice changes as needed.
  • Ensure daily paperwork is completed and filed.
  • Keep expediting and delivery areas clean and orderly.
  • Follow HACCP training and maintain records and food-safety goals.
  • Maintain clear communication with crew, drivers, production and supervisors.
  • Communicate shortages, concerns and systemic issues to PIC/other departments.
  • Notify Manager promptly of equipment issues, supply concerns, maintenance needs and counts.
  • Offer support and guidance on quality control; identify sellable status.
  • Monitor packaging inventory and alert supervisor as needed.
  • Inspect expediting equipment before/after shifts and report hazards.
  • Understand department financial goals and impact of lost product.
  • Create schedules for Expediting Team when needed and adjust as required.
  • Support company mission, vision, and values in all activities.
  • Lead teams in delivering excellent customer service and model professional communication.
  • Commit to a culture of DEI and act against harassment or discrimination.

Job Summary

The Bread Expeditor Coordinator is the link between Bread Production and Delivery. The Bread Expeditor Coordinator safely, accurately and efficiently pulls and expedites all phases of wholesale bread orders. The Bread Expeditor Coordinator position is the fourth of four Bread Expeditor levels.

Pay

$26.15/ an hour + comprehensive benefit package

Schedule Requirements

Grand Central Bakery operates 7 days a week/365 days a year.

Schedule flexibility is essential including the ability to work extra hours or days based on department needs.

Essential job responsibilities
  • Ensures staffing needs are met. Calls in staff as necessary.
  • Is able to differentiate between and describe products
  • Pulls orders, slices, and packages all products in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner
  • Maintains accurate counts of products
  • Understands use of all equipment used in Expediting
  • Able to operate bread and bun slicers efficiently while maintaining quality standards
  • Meets quality and pace expectations as per training requirements
  • Makes decisions about quality control concerns.
  • Directs shortages, substitutions, and changes invoices as needed.
  • Ensures daily paperwork is complete and turned into the proper locations.
  • Keeps delivery and expediting areas clean and orderly
  • Follows HACCP training and understands responsibilities to maintain records and food safety goals
  • Maintains clear communication and good rapport with crew members, delivery drivers, bread production and supervisors.
  • Communicates the following to PIC and/or other departments as needed:
    1. Product shortages and causes via e-mail.
    2. Expediting operation concerns – i.e. packing, scheduling, product quality.
    3. Any identified systemic problems with recommendations, suggestions, and solutions.
  • Communicates critical information to the Manager in a timely manner including:
    1. Equipment issues
    2. Supply concerns
    3. Maintenance or cleaning needs
    4. Accurate counts of product and shortages due to culling
    5. Quality control information and trends
  • Uses knowledge of quality control standards to:
    1. Offer support, training and guidance to other expediting and delivery employees about Grand Central products.
    2. Monitor daily product - able to identify potential quality control concerns and make appropriate judgment call about whether or not it is sellable.
    3. Share quality control feedback with appropriate departments and staff
  • Monitors packaging supply inventory and alerts supervisor about needs.
  • Inspects expediting equipment prior to and after shift. Notifies supervisor immediately of any required repairs or safety hazards.
  • Understands the financial goals of the department and the impact of lost product.
  • When necessary, creates schedule for Expediting Team and makes last minute adjustments as needed.
  • Knows and acts in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Grand Central Bakery in all parts of their job.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English required; English/Spanish bilingual preferred
  • Maintains a valid Food Handler's Card at all times and follows health department guidelines at all times.
  • Must demonstrate regular attendance by coming to work on scheduled working days and being on time. May be required to work a variety of days and shifts to meeting business need including weekends and holidays.
  • HS diploma/GED preferred
  • Must be able to add, subtract and multiply with ease and accuracy
  • Ability to function calmly and efficiently in high-pressure, multi-task, deadline-driven environment
  • Basic computer skills required including use of MS Outlook or similar email program

Environmental Conditions

  • This position walks up to the equivalent of two miles per shift. This position stands for 100% of the shift worked.
  • This position works in warm environments.
