Job summary

SMARDT in Plattsburgh is expanding its brazing team. Brazers assemble and join metal components using a torch and filler materials in a controlled process to ensure strong, leak-proof joints.

You will perform metal preparation, brazing operations, quality control, and blueprint reading, with on-the-job training available. Competitive benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401k, vacation and paid sick days, plus a safety boot allowance.

Qualifications

  • Previous brazing experience preferred but not required.
  • Post-secondary education or related experience required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Written/verbal communication in English required.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and join metal components using a torch and filler materials.
  • Prepare metal surfaces and align parts for bonding.
  • Perform brazing operations using flux and filler metal, torches and heaters.
  • Inspect joints for strength, leaks and conformance to specifications.
  • Read blueprints and work orders to meet product specifications.

JOB SUMMARY

Brazers assemble and join metal components using a torch and filler materials in a controlled process that ensures strong, leak-proof, and durable joints.

Here are some of the tasks you'll be performing:

Metal Preparation
  • Clean and prepare metal surfaces to ensure proper bonding.
  • Align and secure parts using clamps, fixtures, or jigs.
Brazing Operations
  • Apply flux and filler metal to joint areas.
  • Use torches, induction heaters, or furnaces to heat metal parts to brazing temperature.
  • Monitor temperature and timing to ensure proper bonding,
Quality Control
  • Inspect finished joints for strength, leaks, and conformity to specifications.
  • Perform pressure tests or visual inspections as required.
  • Identify and correct defects or inconsistencies.
Blueprint and Specification Reading
  • Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders.
  • Follow detailed instructions to meet product specifications.

Qualifications:

To be a success in this role:
  • Willingness to braze copper joints with an open flame torch.
  • Have an attention to detail.
  • Have mechanical skills and be mechanically inclined.
  • Written/verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to a highly dynamic environment.
  • Good reasoning skills and sound judgement.
  • Must be able to lift packages up to 50 pounds.
