Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a part-time music program leader at the Kroc Center to plan and teach music theory and performance skills to children and adults. You will collaborate with corps leadership, organize weekly lessons, and help prepare students for concerts and community events.

You will foster skills, self-esteem, and positive activities, while supporting the mission of The Salvation Army and engaging campers in summer programs when needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in music preferred, or extensive experience teaching music.
  • Minimum of two years’ music experience with children/adults.
  • Performance experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead music and arts programs for corps as assigned.
  • Plan weekly music lessons and implement the curriculum.
  • Attend recitals and prepare corps music programs for concerts.
  • Encourage participants toward goals and self-esteem through music.
  • Organize performances and community activities to share the mission.

Job description

Job Objective:Work with children and adults in the corps and community to plan and implement a music program whichwill include teaching theory, performance skills,music,and values.

Essential Functions:

  • Work within the corpsto lead music and other arts programs as assigned. Responsible for lesson planning for music classes each week and implementing theappropriate curriculumin the program.
  • Workwithcorpsleadership,planand attend all therecitals at thecorpsandprepthecorpsmusic programs toparticipatein theconcert at the end of each school year.
  • Encourage participants to work towards a goal and sense of accomplishment in developing musical abilities. Encourage participants to discover and develop skills and talents that will heighten their self-esteem, increase school/program pride, and involve them in positive activities.
  • Help organize musical performances and community activities that increase public understanding of the mission of the corps in the community.
  • Encourage participants to attend summer camps which will lead them to develop further talents and make spiritual decisions. Be available to help plan the participation of campers in the summer camping programs. This includes the divisional music camp as well as any summer music daycamps.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education :Bachelor'sdegree in music preferred, or extensive experience teaching music.

Experience :Aminimum of two years’ music experience working with children/adults.Performanceexperience is preferred.

Skills/Abilities :

  • Demonstratedproficiencyin music theory and in a primary instrument.
  • Personal knowledge of music, including performance, education, and theory.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Must be a team player,self-starter, and follow through with assignments until completion.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
  • A strong commitment to support and promote the mission ofThe Salvation Army.

Supervisory Responsibility:None

Physical Requirements:Thispositionisrequiredto do light physical workperiodicallyin order tosuccessfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employeeis regularly required touse instruments and equipment needed in a music program. Frequent use of standard office equipment and a PC is also required. Reasonable accommodation may be made toenable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel:Occasionaltravel may berequired.

Driving:Employee mustpossessa valid driver's license from the state in which youreside.Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions:Thework environment for this position includes aprogramenvironment with moderate to high noise level.
