Job summary

Airgas is seeking a Branch Manager in Fairfield, IA to lead daily store operations, drive sales and margins, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and coach the inside staff.

You will support outside sales, manage inventory, and oversee financial processing while mentoring the team to deliver outstanding customer service and efficient operations.

Qualifications

  • Experience guiding, supporting, or leading teams.
  • Reliability and strong personal organization.
  • Proven managerial experience in a customer-facing environment with P&L management and KPI usage.
  • Experience in retail or industrial distribution environments.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and up to 125 lbs with aid.
  • Proficient computer skills and willingness to learn new digital tools.
  • Self-motivated with team focus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional customer service for internal and external customers and call-in product, pricing, and technical inquiries.
  • Support the outside sales team in nurturing existing client relationships and welcoming new business opportunities.
  • Support daily processing of financial transactions including cash reports, charge tickets, coding, costing, pricing, cash summaries, and deposits.
  • Maintain accuracy of back order, open order, and PO expediting reports.
  • Cultivate inventory levels for the branch.
  • Lead training for inside sales on product knowledge, policies, processes, and safety.
  • Conduct periodic performance reviews for branch staff.
  • Bridge between employees and management, mentoring with HR and senior leadership.

The Branch Manager oversees daily store operations to achieve or advance sales and margin goals. This involves promoting sales, delivering excellent customer service, nurturing inventory levels, and balancing expenses through purchase supporting. Additionally, the Branch Manager fosters facility and staff alignment to safety and regulatory standards, empowering team members in providing efficient customer service, maintaining good housekeeping, and harmonizing overall operational efficiency.

  • Provide professional customer service for all internal and external customers and call-in product, pricing, and technical inquiries.
  • Support the outside sales team in nurturing existing client relationships and welcoming new business opportunities.
  • Support the flow of accurate and timely daily processing of financial transactions, including cash reports, charge tickets, coding, costing, pricing, daily cash summaries, and bank deposits.
  • Maintain the accuracy of back order, open order, and Purchase Order (PO) expedite reports.
  • Cultivate and refine appropriate cylinder and hard goods inventory levels for the branch.
  • Facilitate and lead training for inside sales associates on product knowledge, company policies, processes, procedures, and safety, ensuring the confidence that all associates can perform essential branch functions.
  • Conduct periodic performance reviews for branch associates.
  • Act as a bridge between employees and management, providing performance mentorship and guidance in collaboration with Human Resources and senior management.

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong prioritization and organizational skills.
  • Customer-facing or retail experience.
  • Experience guiding, supporting, or leading teams.
  • Reliability and strong personal organization.
  • Proven managerial experience in a customer-facing environment, coupled with demonstrated expertise in Profit and Loss (P&L) management and the strategic use of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive performance.
  • Background in supporting and leading teams within a retail or industrial distribution environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and occasionally up to 125 lbs with the aid of material handling equipment.
  • Proficient computer skills and an interest in learning new digital tools. The ability to navigate multiple priorities concurrently.
  • Self-motivate d with a focus on contributing to the overall team's success.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively act as a bridge between staff and management.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree in related field.
  • 5+ years' experience in sales with a track record of meaningful contributions and experience in the welding industry.
  • Experience with inventory cultivation and vendor relationship support.
  • Computer experience or basic knowledge of SAP.
