Job Overview

Auto-Owners Insurance, a top‑rated carrier, is hiring a Claims Trainee to handle entry‑level insurance claims under close supervision. The role involves investigating, evaluating, and resolving claims while providing service to agents, insureds, and other stakeholders. The position offers a merit‑based work‑from‑home program after initial in‑person training.

Responsibilities

• Investigate, evaluate, and settle entry‑level insurance claims
• Study insurance policies, endorsements, and forms to develop foundational knowledge of company products
• Learn and comply with company claim handling procedures
• Develop entry‑level claim negotiation and settlement skills
• Serve the needs of agents, insureds, and other parties (including meeting and communicating with claimants, legal counsel, and third parties)
• Develop specialized skills such as estimating and using designated computer‑based programs for loss adjustment
• Obtain and maintain an adjuster’s license when required by statute

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in property/casualty claims handling
• Ability to organize data, multi‑task, and make independent decisions
• Above‑average written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to write reports and compose correspondence
• Ability to resolve complex issues and maintain confidentiality and data security
• Ability to deal effectively with a diverse group of individuals
• Strong mathematical skills, including geometry, financial calculations, and proficiency with personal and business finance documents
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record consistent with underwriting guidelines
• Commitment to continuously develop product knowledge through approved educational programs

Compensation

Base salary range: $50,000 – $81,500 annually. Other components include benefit dollars for selected benefits and bonus opportunities.
