Job summary

Maynard Public Schools in Maynard, MA seeks a Boys JV Basketball Head Coach to lead the program after school and in the evenings. Reports to the Athletic Director and will guide players to develop skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship while upholding district values.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years coaching experience, knowledge of basketball rules, and appropriate certifications; teacher certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Three to five years of experience as an athletic coach is preferred.
• Knowledge of the sport and its rules and regulations.
• Applicable certifications and/or licensure required.
• Employment with District and valid teacher’s certification preferred.
• Such alternatives or additional qualifications may be acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Analyze strengths and weaknesses and develop strategies for the team.
• Evaluate players and assign roles based on strengths and weaknesses.
• Set team and individual goals and motivate staff and players.
• Prepare game plans in collaboration with other coaches.
• Gather information on opponents and develop game strategies.
• Provide instruction before, during, and after events to improve performance.
• Schedule and coordinate practice schedules and procedures.
• Develop physical conditioning programs for athletes.
• Ensure equipment is used safely and properly.
• Attend all team events and participate in coaching meetings.
• Maintain records of player performance and eligibility.
• Complete required exams, waivers, and certifications as needed.
• Stay current on coaching regulations and certifications.
• Coordinate with Athletic Director to assign assistant coaches and oversee staff.
• Oversee team support staff performance.
• Assist Athletic Director with evaluations and planning.
• Perform additional duties as directed.
