Qualifications

• New Jersey Teacher Certification or County Substitute Teacher Certification.
• Knowledge of the sport which the individual intends to coach; knowledge of NJSIAA conference and school regulations.

Responsibilities

• Attend all meetings, practices, scrimmages, and games.
• Develop and carry out program to teach athletes the appropriate skills.
• Distribute, collect, and store uniforms and equipment.
• Supervise players at all times under coaching jurisdiction.
• Prepare a budget as per the Athletic Director.
• Keep team informed of practice schedules, games, and cancellations.
• Teach sportsmanship, attitudes, and behavior.
• Complete necessary reports and records as required.
• Assist Athletic Director to develop crowd control procedures.
• Teach health and safety procedures to team members.
• Maintain responsibility for disciplinary matters.
• Maintain professional conduct toward officials and others.
• Inform Athletic Director of potential problems.
• Maintain team behavior and discipline.
• Distribute written rules approved by Athletic Director.
• Keep assistant informed of all team members.
• Follow proper chain of command: Athletic Director – Principal.
• Coordinate with Guidance Counselors on college placement.
• Check eligibility requirements as determined by principal and Athletic Director.
