Job summary

Colorado Judicial Branch seeks a Legal Research Attorney in Boulder to provide highly complex legal research for the entire bench within a judicial district. The role focuses on research and advising judges, with no courtroom or bailiff duties.

The position reports to the Chief Judge; travel weekly to Longmont and occasional trips to Boulder County Jail; standard hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a one-hour lunch and some weekend work.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: Graduation from an accredited law school; possession of a certificate of admission to the Bar of the State of Colorado; and eligibility to practice law before the courts of Colorado.
• Physical Demands: Regularly sit, reach, talk or hear; may lift up to 10 pounds.
• Work Environment: Quiet with interruptions and multiple inquiries.

Responsibilities

• Researches legal issues presented by parties during litigation.
• Advises judges on research results and assists the judge in developing an appropriate course of action in the case.
• Writes the first draft of opinions issued by the court.
• Reviews documents and pleadings filed with the court as assigned by individual judges.
• Maintains all library materials including book, CD-ROM, and electronic research subscriptions.
