Job description

M.M.LaFleur is redefining "brick and mortar." We aim to create a revolutionary experience for our customers who love great style but have minimal time to shop. Our key differentiator is our hyper-personalized customer service and we want you to be on the ground floor of building that experience.

Who are we?

We're a group of go-getters who are passionate about reimagining the way women shop and dress for work and life. We get inspiration from our customers, and everything we design has a purpose and a human touch. We think big, but we sweat the details, and we take our work (but never ourselves) seriously. We’re steady but nimble, thanks to a whip-smart, energetic team that’s not afraid to be scrappy. We are perfectionists who sometimes spill on our clothes—we own our mistakes, turn challenges into growth, and evolve as we learn. We embrace ambiguity, celebrate weird ideas, and love a work in progress. We are kind but direct, and we practice Kizukai—a Japanese word that means “empathy in action.” We are incredibly proud of the team we’ve built, and we’re excited to continue evolving as we grow.

About This Role

We’re looking for an experienced retail manager who is passionate about our brand, loves a challenge and has proven success managing a growing team.

[Note: This role is based onsite in our Newbury Street store and cannot be done remotely. ]

What will you do?

Drive store revenue and market growth:

  • Forecast weekly sales in partnership with the Director of Retail to ensure your store is on track to hit monthly goals set by the Finance & Sales teams
  • Understand store performance and analyze store KPIs in partnership with Director of Retail to optimize store performance weekly
  • Ensure your store team is maximizing each customer interaction and knows the numbers they need to hit - and how to hit them
  • Lead clienteling at the store, utilizing customer relationship development as an opportunity to drive volume and revenue
  • Play an active role in your community to drive business and events to your store
  • Support sales by providing styling and service support to customers in person and online as needed

Develop and lead a team:

  • Recruit, interview and hire part-time and full-time sales team
  • Manage the store team, ensuring consistent and brand-appropriate communication with a focus on the highest level of service standards
  • Train, develop and maximize the success of the store team through individual coaching and team development opportunities
  • Facilitate a culture of empowerment and respect among your team and the clients that you work with
  • Embody the M.M. brand, style, and voice as you lead your team

Oversee daily operations:

  • Schedule store team to ensure optimal customer experience while staying within allocated headcount budget
  • Maintain the store’s P&L, making recommendations ensure store profitability
  • Manage inventory tracking, replenishment, and allocation in partnership with the Planning team
  • Work closely with the Director of Retail and Merch team to update inventory and displays to capitalize on current customer trends while sticking to brand styling guidelines
  • Own and maintain the health and safety procedures for your retail store and team, ensuring all visitors and staff follow outlined policies

Who are you?

  • 2-5 years of retail/service experience with a minimum of 2 years of management experience
  • A love for training, managing, and developing people; you’re empathetic and thoughtful
  • You understand the nuanced difference between being a manager and being a leader
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, verbal, and written skills
  • Strong knowledge of Excel, Word, and scheduling/POS systems
  • Available to work weekends and acknowledge the occasional evening work is required to support events
  • Ability to be self-directed and comfortable operating with limited oversight
  • Ability to turn on a dime and to thrive in a fast-paced start-up environment
  • Passion for MM.LaFleur's mission and products

You are a true M.M. brand advocate.

You love MM as both a brand and as an employer. You're constantly talking us up, and are thrilled to be able to join us on our journey to take the work out of dressing for work. You know our story, our products, and our value-add through and through.

You are a strong and committed leader

You want both your store and your stylists to succeed and grow. If your team isn't successful, then you aren't successful. You take their success and growth seriously and personally. If you see someone struggling you immediately jump in to help. While you embody kizukai and nothing above you, nothing below you on a daily basis, you know that being a true leader is about more than being nice. If your team isn't hitting their numbers, you take the time to try to understand why. You work with your stylists to ensure they have the training and resources they need to do their jobs well.

You are business and growth-focused.

You realize that at the end of the day, we're a business and you are focused on helping us succeed. If your store is underperforming, you take charge. You're the first to raise your hand with ideas on how to drive more revenue. Should we offer a gift with a purchase promotion? Is there a local business we can partner with to drive more traffic? Should we build out our local network and host more events? You'll know which is best because you know your market and you know our customers. In addition to always having an eye on revenue, you also understand our processes and recognize their importance in how they work together to support seamless customer operations. You're the go-to in the store for why we do what we do and how to do it.

Compensation

  • Salary starting at $85,000 plus opportunities for performance incentives
  • Employee Discounts of 60% off of M.M.LaFleur apparel, 50% off of accessories and partner products
  • Pre-tax commuter and parking benefits
  • Medical/Dental/Vision benefits, generous PTO, and 401k
