Job summary

Newly appointed agents may receive recruitment incentives up to $20,000 and retention incentives up to $40,000, with duty locations across various sectors.

Qualifications

• GL-9 requires one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the next lower grade level.
• You may qualify at GS-11 grade level with one year of specialized experience and authority to enforce laws.
• There are no education substitutions for GL-9 or GS-11 grade levels.

Responsibilities

• Detect individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws and inspect documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
• Prevent and apprehend aliens and smugglers by maintaining surveillance from covert positions and using night-vision equipment.
• Interpret and follow tracks, marks, and physical evidence of illegal entry of persons or contraband.
• Perform farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks to secure areas.
• Patrol the international boundary and coastal waterways using various government assets to fulfill USBP mission.
