Job summary

Custom Truck One Source in Kansas City, MO is seeking a Boom Assembler to perform heavy crane modifications, installations and repairs following factory standards. You will work under the Boom Shop Manager, ensuring accurate, efficient work and safe operation.

Ideal candidates have high school education or equivalent, plus trade training; ASE or welding certs are a plus. Must bring your own tools and be prepared for a Monday–Friday day shift with overtime when needed.

Qualifications

• Electrical, hydraulics, and mechanical skills with troubleshooting ability.
• Must be able to bring and use personal tools.
• Experience with crane equipment and crane-related components preferred.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and EPA compliance is expected.
• Welding and ASE certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Installation and removal of crane equipment and modifications.
• Modify crane truck wheelbases and suspensions as needed.
• Perform crane repairs and PM inspections per standards.
• Fabricate components for crane installations.
• Maintain a clean shop and track tools at all times.
• Follow installation instructions and use shop equipment safely.
• Coordinate with parts department for parts and warranties.
• Attend factory training and document work performed.

Summary

Responsible for performing heavy duty crane modifications, installations and repairs to damaged cranes and crane parts, plus crane repair and maintenance work in accordance with Custom Truck and factory standards under the general direction of the Boom Shop Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Installation and removal of different types of crane and crane equipment.
• Modification of crane truck wheelbases.
• Installation and removal of crane truck suspensions.
• Perform work as outlined on crane order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with Custom Truck and factory standards.
• Fabrication and installation of components related to crane equipment installations.
• Keeps shop area neat and clean and be able to account for all tools at all times.
• Ability to follow both written and verbal installation instructions.
• Uses and maintains all necessary shop equipment required to complete any crane repairs or PM inspections.
• Disposes of used oil, grease, antifreeze and filters in the assigned location to insure EPA compliance.
• Cleans and properly equips assigned area to perform all necessary repairs to equipment.
• Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
• Tags all warranty and core parts and take to area for return, insuring proper credit is allowed.
• Advises Boom Shop Manager immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if installations or repairs cannot be completed within the time promised.
• Document work performed.
• Attend factory-sponsored training classes.
• Ensures that customers’ cranes are kept clean.
• Tests crane to quality-check work performed.
• Works with all departments in harmony.
• Must have a working knowledge and understanding of the Company’s Job Safety policies pertaining to this position. Attends and participates in Custom Truck monthly safety training classes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required
• Vocational Technical School / Military Wheeled Mechanic / OJT or related training a plus
• ASE, Mechanics, Welding certifications are a plus
• Physical effort to move objects and tools that may weigh up to 75 pounds; frequent stooping, bending, squatting, and kneeling
• Ability to use various windows-based computer software.
