Bonneville High School - Life Skills Special Education Teacher

Pay: $49,450.00 / year

Job Description

A position has been declared open in the Weber School District for a High School Life Skills Special Education Teacher (grades 10-12). This position is for 8 hours per day, 182 days per year. APPLICANTS SHOULD APPLY ON WSD.TEDK12.COM.

Under the direction of the building principal, the teacher is responsible for the education of assigned students and will create a flexible program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth. The teacher will establish effective rapport with students; motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and the knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education, and do so in accordance with each student's ability. Professional relations will be developed and maintained with other staff and parents.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and behavior plans (BIPs) with fidelity as outlined by the IEP team.
  2. Implement data collection systems, accurately collect and summarize data.
  3. Monitor, redirect, and modify student progress regarding inappropriate behaviors and performance.
  4. Administer intensive behavior intervention programs to identified students.
  5. Teach subject matter utilizing the course of study adopted by the school district.
  6. Develop lesson plans, adapt curriculum to meet individual student needs, and utilize effective teaching techniques.
  7. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
  8. Utilize Least Restrictive Behavior Interventions (LRBI) to support skill development in students.
  9. Support students in the development of transition plans and goals for post-secondary education and training.
  10. Engage students in learning through a variety of instructional materials and structured lessons.
  11. Provide specific and timely feedback to students.
  12. Evaluate students' academic and personal growth and prepare progress reports.
  13. Model and train program staff on the implementation of specific programs and procedures.
  14. Collaborate with school team members to provide instruction and support effectively.
  15. Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
  16. Maintain classroom organization and discipline.
  17. Provide and maintain a safe and supervised environment in the classroom and on the school grounds.
  18. Devise and utilize techniques to measure students' progress.
  19. Communicate with parents regarding academic and personal progress.
  20. Supervise and direct paraprofessionals for the benefit of student learning.
  21. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, school staff, district staff, and parents.
  22. Participate in school and district trainings.
  23. Coordinate with outside agencies as needed.
  24. Manage student files to maintain compliance based on district, USBE, and IDEA guidelines.
  25. Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
  26. Conform to district policies including attendance and evaluations.
  27. Perform other related tasks as assigned by the principal or district office administration.
Job Qualifications

Valid Utah Special Education Mild/Moderate or Severe Teaching License. Highly Qualified in Secondary English Language Arts and/or Mathematics.
