Job summary

West Star Aviation Inc. is seeking a Bombardier Sheet Metal Technician in East Alton, IL. This full-time, on-site role involves performing sheet metal operations on airframes, applying sealants, and maintaining tools and facilities in a fast-paced MRO environment.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma (A&P license preferred) and basic computer skills to access maintenance databases. Prior sheet metal experience is preferred, with a willingness to work overtime and varied shifts as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; A&P license preferred.
• A&P license or eligibility is preferred for elevated qualification.
• Valid driver’s license and/or passport ideal, but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic sheet metal operations such as drilling, riveting, and cutting on airframe components.
• Apply and remove sealant, sound deadening, and finish materials.
• Maintain and repair shop facilities, equipment, and tooling as needed.
• Navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases using basic computer skills.
• Communicate effectively in English (spoken and written).
• Fulfill other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

What you can expect as a Sheet Metal Technician at West Star:

• Perform basic sheet metal operations such as drilling, riveting, cutting on airframe and associated components.
• Application and removal of sealant, sound deadening and finish materials.
• Maintenance, cleaning and repair of shop facilities, equipment and tooling when required.
• Basic computer skills to be able to navigate electronic training, manuals, and maintenance databases.
• Effectively and clearly communicate (i.e., speak, write, read) in English.
• Any other job‑related duties assigned by supervisor or management.

Your Education

A High school diploma or equivalent, and Airframe and Powerplant License is preferred.

Avalid driver’s license approved for airline travel and/or a valid passport is ideal, but not mandatory.

Your Experience

Prior experience working with sheet metal is preferred.

• Attend work every day as scheduled to include overtime and weekend assignments.

Physical Requirements

• Lifts 50 lbs.
• Routine walking, bending and squatting, or sitting.
• Routine or repetitive physical motion with arms and hands.
• Climb ladders and stairs, work in small, restricted areas.
• Standing for long periods of time.

Mental Requirements

• Understanding and implementation of regulations and guidelines.
• Troubleshoot or evaluate system operation.

Supervision

Work under supervision of assigned Team Leader.

May be directed to supervise other technicians in some capacity.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a hangar environment subject to extreme temperature variations from very cold to very hot.

Work outside during aircraft runs will occur.

Varied positions in and around the aircraft.

Equipment Used

• Personal hand tools supplied by the mechanic.
• Pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical equipment.
• Jacks, stands, lifts, and other support devices.
• Tugs, power carts, and other engine‑powered equipment.

Compensation & Benefit Information

The following information is disclosed according to state specific requirements. If the position applied to is not in a state with these requirements, the following information may not apply. The hourly rate for this position generally ranges between $22-$38. Actual hourly rate will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience and performance. Additional compensation in the form of a shift differential will be provided if the employee is assigned to an alternate shift. The range listed is just one component of the total compensation package. Other forms of compensation include a semi‑annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) company match and employer contribution to a Health Savings Account (HSA).
