Job Summary
Supports skilled boilermakers by gathering tools, holding or positioning metal parts, cleaning work areas, and assisting with the assembly, installation, and repair of large industrial boilers, tanks, and pressure vessels
Job Functions
- Comprehend and execute work assignments across shop and field environments
- Transport, organize, and hand over power tools, hand tools, and materials
- Must be able to select materials according to suitability for job engineering standards
- Must clean work areas, remove debris, and prep surfaces by grinding, filing, or flame cutting
- Must Hold, align, or steady metal plates, tubes, and structural components while technicians bolt or weld them into place
- Must assist with basic rigging or help signal crane operators during the movement of heavy equipment
- Must assist with layouts
- Must know and able to use wrenches, pneumatic hammer, dolly, portable drills, reamers, grinders and torch for fitting and bolting assemblies
- Must assist while connecting and securing structural steel (beams, plates, channels, angles) via bolting or alternative fastening techniques
- Must be assist operating manual and mechanical lifting equipment, including block and tackle systems, hoists, and winches, to safely position heavy assemblies
- Must be assist journeyman dismantle, install, repair, and erect fabricated steel structures for boiler and pressure vessel projects
- Must be able to identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Must have a minimum of four (1) year or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience
- Must have a general knowledge of power and hand tools
- Must be able to pass the Boilermaker Skills Test at or above 70% or complete the NCCER certification for your craft
- Must Complete Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an active status within the approved drug testing program

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be willing to work overtime
- Must have the ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
- Must be able to work at elevated heights from ladders, scaffolding, and aerial work platforms
- Must be able to work may include pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, such as raw or fabricated material, equipment or tools
- Must be able to perform work, including frequent bending, kneeling, crouching and stooping and occasional climbing onto equipment
- Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow and wind; and must be able to work for long periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots
