Job summary

Turner Industries is seeking mechanically inclined apprentices to support the Oxy Stratos facility project in No Trees, TX. This non-exempt role reports to the Foreman and involves assisting skilled workers with a variety of duties, with duties checked against procedures as the project progresses.

Applicants must have a high school education or equivalent, be able to pass background and health screens, and may undergo a post-offer drug test or physical evaluation.

Qualifications

• High school or equivalent
• Preferably six (6) months of experience in specified skill
• Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
• Pre-Employment qualification test if applicable
• Job site PPE requirements (hearing protection, safety glasses, long sleeve shirt, gloves, steel toe boots, etc.)
• Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to health or safety

Responsibilities

• Read and sign off on JSA prior to starting shift.
• Digs, spreads and levels dirt and gravel; touch up paint; pour and spread concrete or other materials.
• Handle building materials; fix flats and change out tires on trailers and mobile equipment.
• Lifts and carries materials; assists with crane rigging and equipment.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment; perform assignments per supervisor's direction.

General Job Description

This position is responsible for assisting skilled workers in performing their assigned duties and performing a large variety of other duties. Non-exempt role; Reports to the Foreman; Assigned duties according to specific procedures / work is checked frequently.

Functional Requirements

Read and sign off on JSA prior to starting shift, Employee may perform one or more of the following duties: digs, spreads and levels dirt and gravel, touch up paint, pour and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel or other materials, handle building materials, fix flats and change out tires on trailers and mobile equipment, lifts and carries materials such as pipe and fittings throughout the facility, Helps with tools and equipment such as welding machine set up, rigging for the crane, tightening headstock etc., If certified may be required to operate the crane, May be transferred from task to task as the project progresses to completion, Maintains a clean and safe work environment at all times, Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.

Qualification Standards

• High school or equivalent

• Able to focus on task at hand without being distracted
• Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
• Pre-Employment qualification test if applicable

Physical Involvement

May be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.; reaching in all directions; handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing / sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction; wearing respirator and other PPE; typing /data entry; stepstool use; work in excessive heat; work in excessive cold; work in loud environment

• Location: industrial maintenance and construction sites, pipe fabrication facility
• Mobility Barriers to Access Job Site: uneven ground level; obstructed pathways; work performed at low and/or high elevations; work performed in confined areas
• Climatic/Environmental Conditions at Job Site: predominantly outdoor climate; may be exposed to extreme hot or cold weather, excessive humidity, rain, etc.; various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc.; potential exposure to chemical substances
