Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Boiler/Turbine Control Room Operator in Groton, CT to support a highly complex pharmaceutical powerhouse team. The role requires operation of three dual fuel boilers, a gas turbine, and HRSG, with 12-hour rotating shifts on the Dupont Schedule.

Candidates should have a CT OE2 license or be able to obtain one within a year and at least 5 years of technical experience in operating and maintaining chilled water systems, plus experience with building management systems.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CT OE2 license or the ability to obtain one within one year.
• 5 years of technical experience in skilled trades including operating and maintaining chilled water systems in a large commercial or industrial environment or equivalent.
• Ability to obtain a security access badge at our client’s location.
• Willingness to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and alternate schedules.
• May require a valid Driver’s License.
• This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.

Responsibilities

• Operate three dual fuel 600 psig boilers and distribute via Delta V DCS.
• Operate a Gas Turbine and Waste Heat Recovery Steam Generator.
• Manage power generation and distribution including islanding operation.
• Distribute generated nitrogen and manage bulk storage.
• Monitor return condensate/steam trap systems and ancillaries.
• Perform rounds, test chemistry, collect data, and make minor repairs.
• Respond to alarms and escalate as appropriate.
• Take corrective action for abnormal events or system failures.
• Maintain logs and regulatory records for system performance and discharges.
• Pursue continuous improvement and training for growth as a powerplant operator.

Job description

Amentum is seeking Boiler/Turbine Control Room Operator for our highly complex, critical environment, pharmaceutical powerhouse team in Groton, CT!

To ensure 24/7 coverage, these positions will work 12-hour rotating shifts on the “Dupont Schedule”.

You’re a Boiler/Turbine Control Room Operator that provides a level of expertise in the operation, lineup, troubleshooting and performing preventive maintenance on all utilities plant equipment. Utilities equipment includes but is not limited to: High Pressure Boilers, Steam/Gas Turbine Generators, Industrial Chillers including their related control systems and associated auxiliary equipment.

As a Boiler/Turbine Operator you will be responsible for:

• Operating three dual fuel 600 psig industrial steam boilers, and associated site distribution via Delta V DCS system
• Operating a Gas Turbine and Waste Heat Recovery Steam Generator
• Power generation and distribution as well as parallel/islanding operation
• Distributing generated nitrogen as well as bulk delivery storage
• Managing return condensate/steam trap systems and ancillaries
• Making equipment rounds, testing chemistry, collecting data and making minor equipment repairs
• Acting as 1st response to alarm conditions including escalation where appropriate
• Taking corrective action for abnormal events or system failures
• Keeping logs and recording retention for systems including regulatory requirements maintaining system performance within permitted levels (air, water, basin discharge)
• Pursuing a continuous improvement process and training as required for further growth as a powerplant Operator

Minimum Requirements

• High school or equivalent
• CT state OE2 license or the ability to obtain one within one year
• 5 years of technical experience in any skilled trade including operating and maintaining chilled water systems in a large commercial or industrial environment or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and or experience. Including 1 year of experience in the operation of building management systems and chilled water generation and distribution.
• Ability to obtain a security access badge at our client’s location.
• Must be willing to work overtime as assigned, holidays, various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.
• This position may require a valid Driver’s License.
• This position does not include sponsorship for United States work authorization.

Physical Requirements

• Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
• Requires the ability to stand for prolonged periods and walk extensively throughout the facility during shift.
• Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat, twist, crawl, and climb repetitive during shift.
• Requires the ability to regularly kneel, work in cramped or confined spaces, or assume uncomfortable or tiring body positions repetitive for shift.
• Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.
• Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.
• Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, stairs, or scaffolding at least 10 times during shift.
• Requires the ability to work at an accelerated pace in emergency conditions, as needed.
• Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.
• Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.
• Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.
• Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.
• Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.
• Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Requirements

• Technical degree preferred.
• Ability to read and understand repair manuals, specifications, drawings, and schematic diagrams.
• Experience working with heavy industrial or manufacturing plant steam systems, centrifugal chillers, air handling units, cooling towers, air compressors, air dryers, heat exchangers, exhaust systems, pneumatic controls, and building automation control systems.
• Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS); EAMS experience is a plus.
• Experience interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
