Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an experienced Boiler Controls Technician to perform maintenance and complex repairs on large commercial gas and electric boilers. You will troubleshoot control systems, calibrate instrumentation, and follow preventive maintenance schedules to ensure safe, efficient operation.

Responsibilities include documenting work, assisting with scope development for retrofits, and estimating time and material costs.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of service experience in repair, maintenance, and operation of large commercial boilers and steam generation systems.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with Siemens, Honeywell, Fireye, Autoflame, and similar controls.
• Advanced combustion controls, including VFD, O2 Trim, Low NOx.
• Valid driver’s license.
• OSHA-10 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six months from date of hire)
• Basic working knowledge of computers and building control systems
• Ability to read blueprints, layout plans and wiring diagrams.
• Ability to manage time and complete delegated work within specified timeframe.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, and repair all components of boiler systems and associated mechanical equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair control systems, electrical circuitry, deaerators, gas and fuel pressure lines, feedwater pumps, compressors, motors and heat exchangers.
• Use combustion analyzers and multimeters to test and analyze systems.
• Perform calibrations and checks on instrumentation such as gauges and transmitters.
• Follow preventive maintenance schedules and perform routine maintenance.
• Monitor systems and conduct safety inspections per safety and EPA requirements.
• Document preventive maintenance and repair work and keep records up to date.
• Maintain accurate records of completed work and materials used; complete paperwork professionally.
• Assist Service Sales with scope development, technical analysis and retrofit support.
• Assist with estimating time and material costs.

Description

Perform routine maintenance and complex repairs on controls systems for large, commercial HVAC boilers (gas-fired hot water boilers, gas-fired steam boilers, and electric-fired steam boilers) and on related equipment. Understand equipment and process flow and effectively troubleshoot problems to ensure everything is working properly, efficiently, and affordably.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Inspect, maintain, and repair all components of boiler systems and associated mechanical equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair control systems, electrical circuitry, deaerators, gas and fuel pressure lines, feedwater pumps, compressors, motors, heat exchangers, and other related equipment.
• Effectively use combustion analyzer, electric multi-meter, and other related test equipment to test and analyze systems and equipment.
• Perform calibrations and checkouts to basic instrumentation such as gauges, pressure transmitters, flow meters, pneumatic and electronic drive units, variable speed motor controls (VFDs), etc.
• Follow preventative maintenance schedules and perform routine maintenance and repair, including disassembly, cleaning, and re-assembly functions, fire tube maintenance, water side maintenance, boiler controls disassembly and the repair and rebuilding of controls.
• Monitor systems and perform safety inspections to ensure compliance with established safety requirements and EPA regulations.
• Document preventive maintenance and repair as required.
• Maintain accurate records of completed work and materials used. Complete all necessary paperwork in a timely and professional manner.
• Assist Service Sales with customer scope development, technical analysis and support for retrofits, control upgrades and enhancements to existing equipment.
• Assist with estimating time and material costs.

Requirements

• 5 or more years of service experience in the repair, maintenance, and operation of large commercial boilers and steam generation systems
• High school diploma or equal education credit
• Experience with Siemens, Honeywell, Fireye, Autoflame, and similar controls.
• Advanced combustion controls, including use of VFD, O2 Trim, Low NOx combustion
• Valid driver's license
• OSHA-10 certification (if not currently certified, must be obtained within six (6) months from date of hire)
• Basic working knowledge of computers, micro-processor technology with computer-based building control systems and computerized preventative maintenance programs
• Ability to read blueprints, layout plans and wiring diagrams.
• Ability to effectively manage time and complete delegated work within specified timeframe.
