Job summary

Mercedes Benz Vans LLC in Charleston, SC seeks a 2nd shift Body Shop Group Leader to manage the group’s safety, productivity, training, morale, and security. You will monitor production, ensure targets are met, and guide Team Leaders toward peak performance.

The role requires 3+ years of supervisory experience in manufacturing, a high school diploma, and a preference for a related bachelor’s degree. Internal PV-45 experience is valued, with strong communication and problem-solving skills

Qualifications

  • Must have High School Diploma and 3+ years supervisory experience in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field is desired.
  • Internal Employees: PV-45 or currently fulfilling Group Leader position.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as the technical and disciplinary lead of the group.
  • Oversees, organizes, and coordinates all work content of the group. Motivates, supports, develops, and challenges team members to their optimal potential.
  • Manages flow of communication to the team and to management
  • Drives continuous improvement for production processes, efficiency, product quality, environment, and ergonomics.
  • Identifies trouble areas and resolves issues.
  • Administers company policies and procedures.
  • Assumes ownership and accountability for personnel management: Evaluations/reviews, coaching, counselling, resource planning and team building.
  • Coordinates schedules and workflow for the team. Plans, controls, and approves vacation, employee shifts, qualifications, and schedules.
  • Provides feedback to all involved departments to improve overall performance of the plant.
  • Prepares reports based on data. Presents findings to management and others.
  • Introduces measures for positive development of employees. Resolves complex employee issues.
  • Resolves issues that are varied and non-routine. May order materials and/or spare parts.
  • Facilitates and participates in regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Multiple team leaders reporting to the Group Leader
  • Responsibility for typically 30-50 associates in an automotive facility
  • Project management and work shop involvement

Job Overview

Manages the safety, productivity, training, morale, and security of a Production Group. Monitors production and meets established production and quality targets. Possesses strong expertise in multiple technical work areas. Directly responsible for Team Leaders and indirectly responsible for Team Members.

Qualifications

  • Internal Employees: Completed successfully PV-45 or currently fulfilling position of Group Leader
Knowledge and Skills
  • Automotive industry experience a plus.
  • Body Shop, welding, supervisory experience is a plus.
  • Highly flexible individual with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required.
  • Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Computer skills essential, including strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Able to problem solve. Understands and applies "root cause analysis".
  • Prefer experience in welding technologies such as mig, mag, spot, and laser welding.
