Job summary

Cox Automotive in Texas is seeking an automotive body shop prep associate responsible for preparing repaired and primed panels for refinishing, ensuring sanding scratches are removed and finishes meet SOP standards.

The role offers production-based pay of $1.25 to $25.00 per flag hour, with eligibility for overtime and company safety programs; candidates must be able to stand, lift light tools, and work in a team environment at the Euless location.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma preferred.
• 1 year body shop and/or prepping experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Inspect repairs and primed panels for proper bodywork and primer application as defined in SOP.
• Review incomplete or damaged work with management before proceeding.
• Mask adjacent panels to prevent scratches during final sanding.
• Prepare repaired panels (including blend panels) for final finish application using abrasives and tools.
• Avoid over- or under-sanding and refinish panels to ensure a quality finish.
• Clean dust and particles from panels before moving vehicles forward.
• Demonstrate safety by following all safety procedures and supporting Safety Excellence.

Job description

This position prepares properly repaired and primed automotive body panels for refinishing coat application, ensuring that all sanding scratches and visible imperfections are removed or repaired before applying refinishing topcoats. Adherence to processes defined in Manheim's Body Shop Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) is required.

*** This position offers production-based pay, meaning compensation is determined by the tasks performed. Pay ranges from $1.25 - $25.00 per flag hour based on location.

Job Responsibilities

• Inspect all repairs and primed panels for proper, complete body repairs and primer application, as defined in the SOP.
• Tools Bonus only for New Hires
• Review any incomplete, missed damage, or improper repairs with management before proceeding.
• Mask/protect any adjacent panels (non-refinish) from scratches or damage before final sanding.
• Prepare properly repaired and primed panels (including "blend" panels) for
• final finish application using abrasives, power tools, and hand tools, as directed in SOP.
• Avoid over-sanding (cutting through the finish) or under-sanding (leaving sand scratches that will be visible in the final finish) and refinish panels.
• Clean and remove all dust and other particles from repair/refinish panels completely before moving completed vehicles to the next step.
• Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such.
• Actively participate in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor, i.e., assist supervisor in training and orienting new employees, perform housekeeping duties, etc.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 1 year of body shop and/or prepping experience preferred.
• Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk, and hear.
• Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat, and climb.
• Ability to lift 1-15 pounds (i.e., light hand tools, etc). Manual dexterity, repetitive motion tasks.
• Vision abilities required include close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
