Job summary

Dougherty Manufacturing in Edgewater, FL, is seeking a Boat Detailer to perform final cosmetic finishing, cleaning, and quality inspection of SOLACE Boats prior to delivery. You will detail interior and exterior areas, ensuring every boat leaves looking its best and passes final quality checks.

Attention to detail and pride in workmanship are essential. This full-time role runs Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, on-site in Edgewater.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in boat detailing, auto detailing, polishing, or a related finishing trade preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality, show-ready work.
  • Comfortable using buffers, polishers, and hand tools for compounding and finishing work.
  • Basic knowledge of gelcoat, fiberglass, and marine surface care preferred.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in and around boats for extended periods.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and detail boat interiors, including seating, consoles, cabinetry, non-skid surfaces, and hardware.
  • Inspect gelcoat, fiberglass, and painted surfaces for imperfections, scratches, or defects and perform minor touch-up or buff-out work as needed.
  • Remove dust, adhesive residue, and other production debris from finished boats.
  • Clean and detail hardware, rigging, upholstery, canvas, and other components prior to final delivery.
  • Operate detailing equipment safely and correctly.
  • Identify and report quality issues or defects to the appropriate department for correction prior to final sign-off.
  • Prep boats for photography, dealer delivery, boat shows, or customer walk-throughs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe detailing work area.
  • Follow proper handling and storage procedures for detailing chemicals.
  • Collaborate with production and quality control teams to ensure finished boats meet SOLACE's cosmetic and quality standards.

JOB SUMMARY

The Boat Detailer is responsible for the final cosmetic finishing, cleaning, and quality inspection of SOLACE Boats prior to delivery, ensuring every boat leaves the facility looking its absolute best. This role performs interior and exterior detailing, and plays a key part in final quality checks before a boat is released to a dealer or customer. Attention to detail and pride in workmanship are essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Prior experience in boat detailing, auto detailing, polishing, or a related finishing trade preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality, show-ready work.
  • Comfortable using buffers, polishers, and hand tools for compounding and finishing work.
  • Basic knowledge of gelcoat, fiberglass, and marine surface care preferred.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in and around boats for extended periods.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience specifically detailing boats or other marine/RV products.
  • Familiarity with gelcoat repair and buff-out techniques.
  • Experience working in a marine manufacturing or dealership environment.
  • Basic understanding of marine hardware, canvas, and upholstery care.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Works primarily on the production floor and around boats both indoors and occasionally outdoors.
  • Exposure to detailing chemicals, compounds, waxes, and cleaning products; appropriate PPE required.
  • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing on and around boats.
  • Occasional lifting of equipment, supplies, or materials up to 25-35 lbs.
  • Exposure to noise from buffers and polishing equipment; hearing protection provided as needed.
