Borusan Pipe USA in Baytown, TX is seeking a Blow Out and Flattening Operator to support tube processing, flushing debris, and flattening tests in a safe, compliant manner.

You will back up the 25-ton crane, Cut-Off Operator and Straightener Operator, monitor machine condition, ensure quality traceability, and communicates issues to the supervisor while maintaining daily PPE and 5S standards.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills required.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and tools.
  • Experience with automated equipment preferred.
  • One year crane operation experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and flushing operation is a plus.
  • Employee must be able to work with a flexible schedule which may require overtime and weekends when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Make sure tube is free of debris.
  • This position will be a back-up for the 25 Ton Crane, Cut-Off Operator and Straightener Operator.
  • Maintain a good machinery condition by observing machine operations; detecting machinery malfunctions and make required corrections.
  • Ensure that blow out machinery is working efficiently and blows adequate amount of water for flushing.
  • Ensure that the pipes being cut for flattening test are properly marked.
  • Check the conformity of OD and ID for each tube; place non-conforming tubes on the prove-up table; communicate to the mill operator about the condition of the pipe.
  • Assist the Cut-Off Operator and inform of what direction to move the pipe when it is crooked.
  • Communicate with crew to achieve a quality product.
  • Communicating to Supervisor any problems with material and equipment.
  • Responsible for all mechanical testing of material that is processed by BMP to ensure conformity to API/Customer specifications.
  • Responsible for obtaining his/her sample for testing.
  • Employee must follow all PPE policies and safety rules.
  • Employee must follow the 5S implementation procedure.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Blow Out and Flattening Operator shall operate and assist in the functions of flushing debris from tube and perform flattening testing on pipe material for the continuous operation in accordance with plant policies and procedures. He/she will ensure a safe and compliant operation during his/her shift.

Working Conditions:

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment; hot when weather is hot and cold when weather is cold. Greasy, dirty and noisy environment. Work involves lifting, pulling and/or pushing of materials and product up to 50 pounds. Standing and walking considerable distances. Operation requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.

1. Qualifications:

1.1. A High School diploma or equivalent GED.

1.2. Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills required.

1.3. Manual dexterity required for operating, machinery, hand tools and hand-held measurement devices.

1.4. Experience with operating automated equipment preferred.

1.5. One year of experience of 25-ton overhead crane operation is a plus.

1.6. Knowledge of the manufacturing processes, procedures, and flushing operation is a plus.

1.7. Employee must be able to work with a flexible schedule which may require over-time and weekends when necessary.

2. Responsibilities:

2.1. Make sure tube is free of debris.

2.2. This position will be a back-up for the 25 Ton Crane, Cut-Off Operator and Straightener Operator.

2.6. Break off extended scarf from the tube once its kicked off the run-out conveyor

2.7. Check the conformity of OD and ID for each tube, place non-conforming tubes on the prove-up table, and communicate to the mill operator about the condition of the pipe.

2.8. Assist the Cut-Off Operator and inform of what direction to move the pipe when it is crooked.

2.9. Communicate with crew to achieve a quality product.

2.10. Communicating to Supervisor any problems with material and equipment.

2.11. Responsible for all mechanical testing of material that is processed by BMP to ensure conformity to API/Customer specifications.

2.12. Responsible for obtaining his/her sample for testing.

2.13. Employee must follow all PPE policies and safety rules.

2.14. Employee must follow the 5S implementation procedure.

3. Activities:

3.1. Employee must report to his/her immediate supervisor for briefing on daily tasks.

3.2. Provide and assist with good maintenance on the equipment he/she is operating.

3.3. Maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area and keep it free and clear of debris.

3.4. Cut a section of pipe, head and tail every twenty joints, for flattening test.

3.5. Perform flattening test, cut collapse samples and cut crops for lab.

3.6. Verify traceability of pipe.

3.7. Report any discrepancies on reports to Supervisor.

3.8. Ensure daily activities are in accordance with proper procedures.

3.9. This position may require operating a Forklift and Overhead Crane.

3.10. Check that all machinery is properly serviced before starting up and during shift

3.11. Assists in repair and replacement of equipment during maintenance shutdowns.

3.12. Assist in changeovers and Mill stops.

3.13. Other duties as assigned.
