Job summary

Dairy Farmers of America is seeking a packaging operator for a full-time 2nd shift role in Portland, ME. You will run and maintain labeling, scales, conveyors, casers, stackers, coders and related packaging items, ensuring efficient material usage and accurate weight and documentation.

Shift is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM. Responsibilities include material handling, quality checks, and communicating any variances to the Production Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Warehouse, production, or general work experience preferred.
  • Certification and/or License - may be required during course of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Order packaging material from storage as needed.
  • Visually inspect boxes and packaging for defects.
  • Ensure proper sizing of product containers.
  • Load packaging material onto machines to avoid line stoppages.
  • Observe equipment and adjust to meet specifications.
  • Perform net weight checks and adjust as needed.
  • Report changes in product flow or issues to supervisor/maintenance.
  • Verify packaging, coding and seals meet specifications and adjust as needed.
  • Ensure correct packaging materials are used for each product.

Job description

Run and maintain packaging equipment, which includes labelers, scales, conveyors, casers, stackers, coders, and other related packaging items, safely and efficiently in relation to material usage documentation, product waste, sealing, coding, and weight control. This is a full-time, 2nd-shift position with a schedule of Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Order packaging material (paper, poly, cartons) from storage as needed
  • Visually inspect boxes, cartons, and other packaged materials for printing defects
  • Ensure proper sizing of product containers
  • Load packaging material onto machines in a timely manner to ensure no line stoppages
  • Observe operation of equipment and perform necessary adjustments to ensure product specifications are met
  • Perform net weight control checks and make equipment adjustments as needed
  • Communicate any changes in product flow, equipment malfunctions, shortages, or deviations from specifications to Production Supervisor, maintenance, or other operators verbally and/or in writing
  • Inspect packaging, coding, and seals to verify conformance to specifications, and performs necessary adjustments to ensure compliance
  • Ensure the proper packaging materials are used for each product being produced
  • Working knowledge and experience with wrapper operations; watching for jams and effectively threading wrap to prevent cost downtime due to handler error
  • Ensure machine is supplied with correct material needed to run and complete logbooks as required
  • Ensure all paperwork is filled out in a clear, legible, and accurate format, and completed with required information
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Warehouse, production, or general work experience preferred
  • Certification and/or License - may be required during course of employment
