Overview

Blowing Snow Control Designer | Salary Range: $31.11 - $45.98 hourly; $64,957 - $96,006 annually. Position will be located in Bemidji, Crookston, or Detroit Lakes, MN.

Are you looking for an opportunity to join the State of Minnesota? MnDOT is hiring to support the Blowing Snow Control Shared Services Program. This role involves right of way work, CAD, and visual planning on projects related to blowing snow control.

The position may offer telework, hybrid, or in-office arrangements; telework must be arranged with the supervisor and in-office work may be required by policy.

Responsibilities
  • Confirm blowing snow issues by collaborating with Snow Fence Coordinators.
  • Collect and analyze Minnesota winter weather data.
  • Visit sites, review aerial photos, and measure open areas to estimate snow drift potential on roads.
  • Use elevation data and wind patterns to identify likely snow drift areas.
  • Prepare plan package materials for blowing snow control plans, including specifications and cost estimates using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, ArcMap (GIS), and GPS.
  • Collaborate with public and private landowners to identify practical snow control solutions.
  • Create reports, maps, and plans to reduce blowing snow on roads.
  • Assist in inspecting construction work and tracking snow control installations in the Transportation Asset Management System (TAMS).

Weekly travel within the northwest region of Minnesota is required, typically about 20% of the time in the field for site reviews, construction inspection assistance, landowner engagement, and snow fence TAMS inspections.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Three years para-engineering experience (Transportation Specialist or equivalent).
  • Experience using MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCAD to import points and surfaces, create alignments and profiles, create sheets (plan, profile, cross sections), and generate 3D corridors.
  • Experience applying road design standards and construction practices.
  • Experience communicating with others while maintaining tact and diplomacy.
  • Valid Class D driver's license.
