Job summary

Versiti Blood Center of Michigan seeks a skilled component manufacturing technician to prepare quality blood components. Under supervision, you will follow SOPs to produce and label RBCs, plasma products and neonatal RBCs, while maintaining strict regulatory standards.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work flexible shifts with weekend rotations. Training on Blood Establishment and Title21 systems is provided.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Ability to read, interpret and write operation forms and manuals.
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills are essential.
• Strong data entry and computer skills are required.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment with flexible shifts.

Responsibilities

• Manufactures Red Blood Cells, Fresh Frozen Plasma and Plasma products.
• Performs leukoreduction of Whole Blood and RBCs.
• Label products to meet regulatory and inventory requirements.
• Follow storage procedures for RBCs, platelets and plasma products.
• Operate and verify equipment functions and document QC as required.
• Maintain productivity to meet department goals.
• Work weekend, holiday rotations and on-call as needed.
• Comply with all policies and standards.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the department leadership, prepares quality biological blood components within the prescribed time following regulatory and operational standards as specified in the Standard Operating Procedures and departmental procedures.

• 4 PM to 12:30 AM , 3 days a week , rotating shifts to weekends every 3 weekends. (weekend hours 2PM to 10:30 PM )
• Weekday - work days are flexible

Responsibilities

• Manufactures Red Blood Cells (RBCs), Fresh Frozen Plasma and Recovered Plasma
• Manufactures Neonatal RBCs. Sterile docks Pedipaks to Platelet Apheresis, Neonatal RBCs
• Performs leukoreduction of Whole Bloods and RBCs
• Manufactures Cryoprecipitate, Pooled Cryoprecipitate and Cryo Reduced Plasma
• Labels products to meet regulatory and inventory requirements
• Manufactures additional specialty products as needed by customer base
• Follows procedures pertaining to the proper storage of RBCs, platelet products and frozen products
• Performs and documents equipment function checks and QC as required
• Maintains a level of productivity that allows department to achieve production goals
• Works weekend, holiday rotations and on-call, as needed
• Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma required
• equivalent required

Experience

• Less than 1 year 1-6 months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience required

• Ability to read, interpret, and write documents such as operating forms, operating and maintenance instructions, and other department manuals required
• Above average attention to detail and problem-solving skills required
